BEST INDIE POP SONGS - WEEK 32
When was the last time someone asked for your opinion let alone feature your opinion on a tastemaking blog? I ask because I’m doing something different this week for the best of indie pop songs column. Rather than me telling you what I have to say ... the best-curated pop picks is highlighting the fans or haters in some cases. We’ve not only filtered through the internet for the latest and best music releases, but we’ve also filtered YouTube for our favorite comments. Let’s get to it and enjoy music from our girl Salem, Lizzo,
SALEM - BAD WORD
Ok for this one can I just say one thing … BOP! Yes, Salem! This is the kind of music that clings to your ears … we’re in fan girl mode right now. Apparently, we’re not the only ones who think that “Bad Word” is a banger. Camran Robert Ferrier says, “Bop and a fu*king half!!” Sure, why not Camran.
KING PRINCESS - PROPHET
Best interpretation: So the prophet mv is a commentary on the industry, right? the way she feels helpless and ~consumed~ by her love interest is used as a metaphor as to how she sees herself being marketed by those men and served on a silver platter for us.” - Periwinkle Sky
Most accurate comment: “This video went from very hot to very creepy real quick.” - Autumn Falcove
JULIA MICHAELS - BODY
“Julia Michaels - “Body” is medicine for the soul.” - We Are: The Guard
“This song made me learn how to love my body a little bit more. Thank you.” - Trinity Martoncik
“Definitely one of the most relatable, truthful songs ever.” - Beatriz Music
SIR - HAIR DOWN FEAT KENDRICK LAMAR
Dedicated Fan: “I feel like people are taking Kendrick's artistry for granted too often. How does he even come up with these concepts of voices and the things he BE saying it's like he's painting a picture. This is God given.” - Will On The Soul
An obvious newb: “Was not expecting dudes voice to be like this, good shit and Kendrick just added to it. Looking forward to more music by SiR.” - Tyler
LIZZO - NPR TINY DESK CONCERT
Most accurate comment:
Me: I don't have 16 minutes to watch this. Got too much important stuff to do.
Lizzo: * breathes *
Me: * 10 minutes in * reschedules conference calls, puts phone on silent. - Bro. Tolliver
Also accurate:

TIERRA WHACK - WASTELAND

Just love listening to her.” - Carly Ronquille
6LACK, KHALID - SEASONS
Esteven Perez thinks, “6lack + Khalid = perfection. They have the voice of the angels..” I’ve never actually heard angels sing so … I’ll take his word for it. Anima Vestra thinks it’s perfect fo r a night drive, “The song you play driving down an empty highway near the sea side at night, wind blowing in your face through the windows, the moon and starts shining through the night, full volume with the person you love…”
FRIENDLY FIRES - SILHOUETTES
80s kids are going to freak out! “1st time: Oh no I'm in the weird side of Youtube again. 2nd time: the 80's visuals are cool. 3rd view: Bababa ba ba ba” - sebanarcy
“Brb I'm just gonna put this up on the big screen and learn the choreography right quick.” - Atari Harris.
MIKE POSNER - PRINCE AKEEM FEAT. WIZ KALIFA
Calen Hart totally sees why we too love Mike Posner, “Dude. This guy is not coming back down to dumb society stuff again lol love it!!!” “Mike got that DAYLYT cheat code how he reinvented everything about himself and discovered he’s a new secret weapon.” - Zack Van Harris Jr.
RUEL - FACE TO FACE
Jared Buckley, “Semi-stalker vibes but wouldn't care if it was Ruel lmao.” We totally feel the same way. And Allesandra Allado seems to love the creeps like us, “the type of creep i would welcome to my life. Omgggg u're amazing.”
