BEST INDIE POP SONGS - WEEK 33

8/16/17

Finally, a place where we can escape from all the external noise. What am I saying, we’ve always existed, guys. Well, not always, but ever since our beginnings we’ve been pushing on filtering through the junk and handpicking quality independent music. It takes time and effort but our soldiers are on it, and believe me it ain’t no easy task when you have all sorts of scandals pulling your attention, like who’s groping who. So with so many distractions, we’ve made it easy for you to find the best new music. All you have to do is hit play on the singles below. This week we feature music from Dorothy, Leikeli47, Ariel Pink, and other standouts.

DOROTHY - DOWN TO THE BOTTOM

You know you’re in the big leagues when you have Linda Perry working with you on your single. Yes, Dorothy is in the clear, they now carry the right to stomp around like rock stars.  “Down To The Bottom,” will  have your skeletons shaking more so if you watch til the end of the video, it literally takes someone down, let’s just hope that someone isn’t you.

WOLF ALICE - DON’T DELETE THE KISSES

Wolf Alice gives us a sweeter side in “Don’t Delete The Kisses.” The video follows a couple riding public transportation and the audience gets an upfront look of the couple’s innocent  ups and their downs. Calling all hipsters, this video is truly for you, but for real, it encaptures the innocence of love and what greater thing is there than love?!

LEIKELI47 - 2ND FIDDLE

Yo, for all of yous (Joe Pesci voice)  that have not gotten around to Leikeli47, you bets turn your ears to the fire being released from those pipes. She’s the answers to everyone’s prayers. The masked rapper brings to the scene what has been lacking for a very long time. Is she the next Missy Ellit? Is she Lil Kim’s alter Ego? Is she trying to tell us she’s the rapper of the neighborhood kind of like Spiderman the friendly neighbor of the neighborhood?

ARIEL PINK - FEELS LIKE HEAVEN

Let’s kick it, after getting our blood pumped, Ariel Pink gives us something to explore and relax to. The man really knows how to expand your mind, I mean if this tune doesn't feel like heaven then I really don’t know what life of anything is. The mellowness takes you back to a time of when things were great, think Elliot Smith or OMD, except Mr. Pink is still relevant and alive.

JAMILA WOODS - LSD FEAT CHANCE THE RAPPER

Ok, so I know as well as you that this track dropped over a year ago, but it wasn't until recently that a fresh new visual dropped and the track was once again revived. Jamil Woods, really shines with her vocals and Chance is just the right support to list the winds. Let this transport you into something good.

CHELSEA WOLFE - 16 PSYCHE

Fans if the darkness rejoice, your saviour Chelsea Wolfe is here to show you all about the 16 Psyche. Kids, this is metal rock, this is the era of Queens of The Stone Age, in fact Troy Van Leeuwen from QOTSA appears in the video. Brownie points for those who caught it.

OLIVER - CHEMICAL FEAT MNDR

The DJ/Producer Oliver is back with a single that at first may make you think that this is a tough one to crack, but once you give it a spin for the second time or a third perhaps then you are in the know to why Billboard, Spotify, and FIFA are eating them up. Oliver’s debut album drops August 25th.

SWIMMING GIRLS - 2KIDS

Who the freak are these girls? They are your best living nightmare, they take no sh*t from anyone and lay the law down. Their dreamy vibes will have you hypnotized, They tend to ride on the edge of pops but refuse to settle for the mundane topics that seems to inundate the mainstream radio. Listen and weep.

KID ANTOINE - INCLUSIVE

We could not let this post go by without featuring what has already had a feature of its own on the site. Kid Antoine give us much to process without words. This my readers is the power of music, feel it, breath it, let yourselves be possessed by it. This is as futuristic as Justice taking on the past in Genesis.

VINDATA + SKRILLEX + NSTASIA - FAVOR

A dream of a collaboration, and this collaboration is one that you had no idea that your soul was in need of. Skrillex has been dipping his fingers in many projects, and this low tempo vibe is one that seems to be of surprise yet one that we perhaps need most of. Too many producers are doing heavy drops that they seem to forget about the lighter side, and this is where Skrillex comes into play. He’s a big enough name to bring to light new talent that would have other wise been producing music in hopes of one day being heard.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
