BEST INDIE POP - WEEK 18

4/29/15

To say that your music playlist just got spicier is an understatement. We’re injecting your ears with an all new batch of the top indie pop songs. Much like the sophisticated photoshop image above, today’s featured indie artists are an exquisite addition to the things you should not miss on the internet today. Buckle up and keep your fists pumping as we listen to the latest from FMLYBND, Rihanna, Aosoon and more. Enjoy the ride!

RIHANNA - AMERICAN OXYGEN

This has Tits McGee written all over it and kind of seems like a political party paid Rihanna pretty darn well to promote what exactly? I’ll stay away from the political side of all this, no need for me to get too deep into it. Riri, girl wash off that American Oxygen from your beautiful relaxed hair and dump yo PR team because you need get back to singing about how bitches better have your money.

FMLYBND - SAVE ME FROM MYSELF

Woah, the indie band that delivers the hell out of feel good California vibes got dark all of a sudden. They’re going hard on their latest single, reaching into a deeper set of emotions and pleading to be saved in their lyrics. I for one hope they ride this darker side because the grunge sounds so good.

BIG DATA - THE BUSINESS OF EMOJI (FEAT. WHITE SEA)

You think “Dangerous” was addicting, wait till you get a load of “The Business of Emoji.” The emoji themed video will delight the sourest of souls! The playful track combines the the vocals of Morgan Kibby from White Sea and the result is, like all of Big Data’s material, truly unique. get lost in translation or emoji or whatever by viewing the above video.

A VIDEO WAS SUPPOSE TO GO IN THIS SLOT

Yea, um that sucks. The video I was about to post just got blocked on YOUTUBE. LAME. Sorry about that.

ASOON - TLC WATERFALLS (ACOUSTIC COVER)

Major goose bump action going on thanks to the soft vocals and delicate guitar playing. I’m sure Lisa 'Left Eye'  is up in heaven shedding tears of approval upon ASOON’s beautiful cover of Waterfalls. Their strip backed version is just way too cool. The duo’s execution makes this track an absolute must have in your playlist.

JUICY J - FOR EVERYBODY FEAT. WIZ KHALIFA AND R. CITY

A messy breakup just got messier or not. I’m sure Wiz Khalifa is doing all this in good fun and not to burn any ex girlfriend especially not Amber Rose. It’s difficult not to love Wiz! Nothing like a good club banger to get you in the mindset for the weekend.

MICHELLE O FAITH - SLEEP THROUGH

Our rockstar curator Duffster brought Michelle O Faith to our attention and for a very good reason. To directly quote him, “there are moments of brilliant pop hooks here & I'm almost certain others will catch-up on her V soon.” One listen and I’m sure you guys will agree. Look out for her EP which includes a track collaboration with MNEK.

DOKO - DISNEY PRINCESS

Ever wonder what a Disney princess sounds like on acid? Yeah, neither have I, but producer Doko makes it sound like a cool thing. It’s a digital ear melting success that needs to be extended into a longer version or perhaps Doko could offer up a series that covers DIsney movies. Additional PC style tracks can be found on his Soundcloud.

IRIS GOLD - WOW!

It’s crazy how everytime I feel I’ve heard it or seen it an artist comes my way and sounds like nothing I’ve heard before. Iris Gold is a mystery to me, a mystery I want to know more about. The upbeat vibes have loosened me up! I just want to keep this on repeat all day!

PANIC! AT THE DISCO - HALLELUJAH

Panic! At The Disco is one of those bands that I don’t admit to liking when I’m around my cool friends. Ha! But I have no problem telling you guys I absolutely love them, infact I have somewhat of an obsession. *Nervous laugh* Ha. But anyways, maybe you should turn your speakers down a bit on this one because Brendon Urie is about to blow your ears. The band’s newest single is crazy and the delivery of it is once again quality. AMEN!

Thanks for joining me, babes. I’ll be back soon with more pop favorites.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
