BEST INDIE POP - WEEK 21 2014

5/21/14

Well good morning to you! How ‘bout we play a little game of Truth or Dare? I’ll go first. Truth: BitCandy is the trusted source for the best alternative pop songs. I feel pretty good about that statement. Okay, your turn. I dare you to listen to the latest offerings below from some of the hottest indie artists in the industry. And if you really want to take it up a notch, I double dare you to submit your music finds to our curator program. I’m kinda curious to hear your playlist and your thoughts about my list below.

BIPOLAR SUNSHINE - DECKCHAIRS ON THE MOON

Well this one sure came out of left field. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not complaining, I just did not expect another fab vibe so soon from pop music creator Bipolar Sunshine. What I did expect was another power hit track. That’s all this guy knows how to do. Have you checked out his previous work?! If you haven’t, I recommend you start off by listening to his EP Drowning Butterflies. It’s gorgeous!

VICE FEAT MIKE TAYLOR - WORLD IS OUR PLAYGROUND [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

If I did not already work delivering music that causes eargasms I’d work as a delivery person. And although team Vice and team Mike both seem like extreme fun, I’d work for the U.S.P.S. cuz I heard those fools pay mad money even when retired. P.S. yes the song is hella old in internet years but this track never gets old.

LA ROUX - LET ME  DOWN GENTLY [CURATOR JESS]

After 5 years of failed attempts of releasing a new album, La Roux is back. You know the band that sang “something something something BulletProof.” I loved dancing to it at clubs. It was like the total thing to do in ‘09. But this time baby, the latest track is a bit of a let down. It’s so different, still has an 80s inspired thing going on but feels different. Then again I am the kind of person who doesn’t like change. meh.

NOOSA - GOLDEN ONE

Continuing with the mellower side of PopSmut, I give you Noosa. This isn’t the first time nor the last that you hear from her. We’re keeping a close eye on everything she puts out. This little track here is plentiful in subtle tempo that mixes well with Noosa’s glazed vocals.

COUCHERON - DEEP END FT. EASTSIDE AND MAYER HAWTHORNE

The latest single from Norwegian producer Coucheron and special guests Mayer Hawthorne and Eastside screams SUMMER!!! A magical synth background and percussion in the deep end help create an overall self-assured sun kissed vibe. Powerful stuff right here.

PLATINUM LIGHTS - BREAKBOT VS JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - BABY I’M YOUR SUIT & TIE

We’re suckers for a good mashup. And as much as I hated “Suit & Tie,” this little hefty number makes J.T. and Jay Z a bit easier to tolerate. Thoughts on this, guys?

KYLA  LA GRANGE - WRECKING BALL [MILEY CYRUS COVER]

Kyla has crazy mad talent and her vocals are strong enough to compete against today’s pop singers. Why she chose to cover Miley beats me. Perhaps to gain exposure??? Whatever the case may be, I shall continue to support her career cuz of her gorgeous dreamy vocals that bring a certain freshness to the stale music scene.

RöYKSOPP & ROBYN - DO IT AGAIN (MOULLINEX REMIX)

Meet European producer Luis Clara Gomes a.k.a. Moullinex, a.k.a. the man responsible for my wet panties. His touch is the perfect amount of aggressiveness that the original track lacked.

TWO - KEEP YOUR HEAD UP

Nothing good comes from surfing the web for countless of hours, said no one ever. I happened to come across the L.A. duo TWO just as I was about to shut down for the night. And even though their sound compares to that of a band whose name I shall not mention, but rhymes with hymen, my excitement that came from discovering their music will not die because I bet these two ladies are a lot hipper and cooler and have a shit ton more swag.

NERO - SATISFY

We’re ending the list with a mind bending track from electronic gods NERO. No words I say can do justice to their latest offering. Only one way to listen to this: loud and in the shower.

-

That’s all the alternative pop songs I have. But this past week has been so good in music that I’ll be back later this week with part two. Oh, and I really do hope you all take me up on the dare. Until next time.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
