BEST INDIE POP - WEEK 38 2015

9/17/14

Experimental power pop, electronic grunge, and summer beats present themselves in this week’s top alternative pop songs. Week 38 is packed with tracks that break away from the conventional sound, and offer something for everyone. The notable features include, FMLYBND, x priest x and Onikalovesyou. Enough with my yapping and let's get to it.

FMLYBND - YOUNG WILD

FMLYBND is on the rise, proving to be one of the most captivating acts to emerge in the past year. With the help of music veteran Eric Palmquist, the Los Angeles indie band returns with another wonderful single that is fetching. This doesn’t disappoint.

THE 1975 - HEART OUT

The latest video offering from indie rockers is, dare I say it... adorable. Oh gawd, that made me squirm. The track much like their previous attempts, encapsulates their signature eclectic and up beat sound. View the video above and prepare for 4:30 min of pure adorableness.

WILD PARTY - WHEN I GET OLDER

Wild Party’s When I Get Older is guaranteed to lift your spirits. The video is a tribute childhood aspirations. I wonder if these guys ever envisioned being hot rock gods. Be sure to catch their debut album, Phantom Pop.

MIAMI HORROR - WILD MOTION (RAC REMIX)

Whenever I see “RAC remix” on a track I instantly assume it will have upbeat summery vibes. It’s like a vacation in your ears. If you want a summer rework RAC is the guy to call.

X PRIEST X - SOPHIE K

Ambitious laid back tones coming from Floridian duo x priest x. Indulge yourself in luscious layers and playful vocals. Can’t wait to hear more.

ONIKALOVESYOU - I WANNA BE YOUR FRIEND

We’ve drank the Kool-Aid guys and we are on board with the wave of dance pop. Onikalovesyou aka  モニカ·σníkαミックス creates music that you can’t turn away from. If you’re new to the sound I recommend you let us slowly ease you into it. Once you’re in, it’s hard to get out.

PONIBBI - HEARTSKIP

Listen to it. After you’re done listening to Heartskip, repeat it. The more you listen to it, the more sense it makes. It’s weirdly captivating. It gives you a sense of nostalgia, and perhaps that is why it’s so comforting to listen to this kind of music.

EPHREM - MIGUEL DO YOU (BOOTLEG)

A sensual low-fi vibe coming from Manchester producer EphRem. His take feels more personal than that of the original. Take a listen above and be sure to catch more of his work on soundcloud.

SHEPPARD - GERONIMO

The Aussie band Sheppard is one to keep an eye on because of youthful songs like Geronimo. A catchy song about a guy who's crushing  on a girl but has to muster the courage to tell her...blah blah...blah...Geronimo! I’m so sorry guys, this track will be stuck in your head aaaallll day.

DIRTY SOUTH - WITH YOU

Last I checked the YouTube video was not working here in ‘Murica. So here’s the link to the gorgeous production of Dirty South: http://www.bitcandy.com/music/best-new-tracks-dirty-south-you-feat-fmlybnd.

As always thank you for your tuning in. We’ll be back next week another unpredictable list of irresistible pop songs.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
