BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 40

10/3/18

There are two things you should do each day. The first, dance like there is no tomorrow, and second, drop in and check out the latest indie songs that the team at We Are: The Guard has curated for you. Yes, we hand pick each and every song just for you. Who else does that for you? Maybe your mom and if she knows good music she’s probably tunning in right now to today’s column of the top indie pop songs. High five to you cool mom. So why waste any more time, let’s get this playlist going so we can all move on with our day. Today’s featured songs come from FRDN, Sigala, Logic, LEON, and more.

FRND - 100 FACES

FRND’s creates sense out of a reckless relationship in their newest single “100 Faces.” The tone draws out the pain one goes through trying to get over crazy and the outcome is a beautiful glitch pop sing-along worthy gem. Personally, for me, there is nothing more exciting than dating someone with multiple personalities. It’s like dating a new person every day but without having to do the whole swiping and waiting on Tinder.

SIGALA, HARVY, NINA NESBITT - SOMEBODY

Let me make this point clear to you: CHECK YO SELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YO SELF, because if you go about cheating on your bea there will be reprucussions to pay. No matter how much time goes by, the trust will never be the same. Even if you play Sigala’s beautiful track “Somebody” it will not mend what your cheating self caused.

LOGIC - 100 MILES AND RUNNING (FEAT. WALE & JOHN LINDAHL)

I was about to do an emergency shut off on my computer when “100 Miles And Running” came on because I though my audio was tripping but NO. This is Logic sounding smoother and cleaner than ever. The only thing that makes this song better is this glorious creation by Redditor @tonieekaboom.

LÉON - BABY DON’T TALK

LÉON just dropped the video for her swanky new single “ Baby Don’t Talk,” and it’s just as cool as the vibes we feel when the track is playing on repeat. The eclectic throwback visuals heighten the Swedish singer’s appearance by making her seem cooler than ever before. 10/10 women would want to be her right now.

KLONDIKE BLONDE - NO SMOKE

This song is everything! Rapper Klondike Blonde has given all woman their new favorite anthem, but before you get to thinking that this song is about a current ex girlfriend check out what K.K. had to say about the meaning of “No Smoke,” “In a weird way, ‘No Smoke’ is all about becoming the better version of yourself. I am the ex-girlfriend, and I am better than her.”

SKYLER STONESTREET - IT KINDA HURTS

Indie singer-songwriter Skyler Stonestreet has been playing in our ears without us realizing it’s her. Her vocals have been featured on The Chainsmokers single “Kanye,” and has written for artists like Marshmello, Jaira Burns, Sabrina Carpenter, and more. But now she’s taking the spotlight in her very own single “It Kinda Hurts.” As cheesy as this may sound, this song is kinda way awesome. No, correction, this song is slice of pop perfection filled with all the shimmer and glitz that we love.

NAO - MAKE IT OUT ALIVE FT. SIR

With a voice as uniques as Nao’s it is to be taken as no surprise that her newest release “Make It Out Alive” featuring SiR is out of this world. The two together beautifully create a hazy laid back production that captivates your attention beginning to end.

FEMME - BE SHY - FT. NOVA

This is about the time we take a break and just dance it out. Let the rhythym take over that uncoordinated body of yours and move to the beat of Femme and Nova. No shame, no judging just one foot infront of the other.

L DEVINE - PEER PRESSURE

I have a soft spot brat pop ugh! How could anyone resist someone like L Devine? “Peer Pressure” will take you through the high’s and low’s of beign young and dumb while enjoying a brief throwback of 90s cult classic film  Heathers.  “Peer Pressure” is out now and forms part of Devine’s upcoming mixtape. Enjoy and don’t give into pressure. You got this.

TIFFANY YOUNG - TEACH YOU

Tiffany Young teaches all of us how to put a cheating boyfriend in place in “Teach You.” With a fresh new look Tiffany’s new self could really cause some damage and rightfully so. In her own words,  “It’s a fun song with a deeper meaning — don’t be pushed around, don’t be fooled, you should know better as a woman to teach a man that he needs to treat you right!” Moral of the story: Don’t cheat on Tiffany.

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
