BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 47

11/21/18

Aww man, it’s Thanksgiving here in the States tomorrow and whether you celebrate it or not you know there’s going to be a whole lot of good food to be consumed. I personally can’t wait to smother my face in them creamy buttery mashed potatoes as I go over the details of my Black Friday shopping. World, better watch out because I’ve prepped all year for this stupid annual tradition. Anyways, as you prep for tomorrow, We Are: The Guard and I have collected ten new indie pop songs that will help get you through the holiday chaos. And sorry for those looking for Christmas tunes, we’re not serving any of that just yet. Scroll through our palette cleansing playlist featuring Aviva, The 1975, Frankie and more.

AVIVA - BLAME IT ON THE KIDS

Today Australian artist AViVA is out to put you in check with “Blame It On The Kids.” Right from the start of the single, she fires out lyrics that make you want to take action in fear of disappointing her. AViVA’s voice is chilling perhaps that’s due in part to her “I don’t have time for bull-caca attitude.” After listening to the song above I am left feeling stupid because why did I pay for therapy when I could have received all the advice ever needed from “Blame It On The Kids.”

THE 1975 - SINCERITY IS SCARY

I for one agree with The 1975’s song and statement of “Sincerity Is Scary.” It is, but hello??? Wouldn’t you rather be transparent than to hide behind a wall of sarcasm and denial? You’ll end up victorious if you just say what you mean to say. “Sincerity Is Scary” forms part of the band’s upcoming LP A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.”

FRANKIE - YOU DECIDED

In 2015 Taylor Swift categorized FRANKIE’s music as New Songs That Will Make Your Life More Awesome, and you know what?! If it’s coming from Tay Tay then chances are it’s 110% accurate. And you know what else? The pop star’s statement still holds true today. Frankie Miller uplifts your mood with her infectious singles, take for instance “You Decided.” It’s a full 3 minutes of soul healing, hand clapping, everything will be ok fun.

HI LIFE - SLIDE FEAT. HARVIE

I know you know what a food comma feels like, so I can only assume that you’ll know wxaclty what I mean when I say “Slide” is like an auditory comma. Future Classic’s latest members are so new that their bio is probaly being typed up at this very minute. Their single “Slide” will leave you feeling all sorts of feels. Yes, this right here is a MUST add on to whatever playlist you have going on.

LENNON STELLA - LA DI DA

Lennon Stella won me over in Nashville, but she’s now making me and the world go head over heels with her recently released debut EP Love, Me. From that, “La Di Da” is a standout track that was created due to an arguement. After venting about it, Stella created a sinlge that would result in something that penetrates your mind and soul. This will be a hard one to shake off.

BILLIE EILISH - COME OUT AND PLAY

I recently had the pleasure of watching this talent live on stage and all I wanted to do was go up and hug her, but I am sure that would have resulted in handcuffs, so the next best thign for me to do is to continue supporting her career by highlighting gems like “Come Out And Play.” This somber warm ballad feels like an inside look at her inner feelings. Of Billie, hugz for you girl.

BETTY WHO - BETWEEN YOU & ME

We’re at the tail end of November which means that we’re all looking for someone to smooch during the holidays. So I suggest next time you’re out bar hopping and end up taking someone home be sure to play Betty Who’s forward single “Between You & Me.” This will most likely scare the person away, but it’s worth the try :)

KEMBA - EXHALE FEAT. SMINO

New York native Kemba is certified freshness. His latest production enlists the vocals of Smino and together they offer a pocket of air for you to breathe. According to the artist, “ ‘Exhale’ is the feeling of being pulled in every direction by the people in your life. You have your family telling you to be more like them, your girl saying be like what she wants, and the pressure you’re putting on yourself to follow your dreams. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and breathe.”

A$AP ROCKY - SUNDRESS

A$AP Rocky channels his psychedelic side with a little inspiration from surf pop band Tame Impala. “Sundress” carries vibes that leave you on a permanent high. Perhaps this might be a signal towards a new direction for A$AP and if that is the case we are all for it.

PINK SWEAT$ - HONESTY

We’ve featured Pink Sweat$ in the past and I’m just bringing you “Honesty” today in case you didn’t catch on line when it first dropped. Think of Pink Sweat$ are the modern day Cyrano, lyrics so beautiful they make you fall in love with just the thoughts of the words. Soak this one up and be sure to experience this rising artist’s music now before he blows up even more.

Thanks everyone for tuning in. Have a great weekend and we’ll see you again next week.

New Song Course - Learn How to Write A Hit Song

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
