BEST INDIE SONGS - WEEK 42 PART 3 2014

10/18/14

This week has been extra packed with breakthrough indie music that we just can’t stop listening to. Here is Part 3 of this week’s best indie music and you’re going to want to hold onto your chairs because this stuff’ll blow you away. Or maybe that’s just the weather!

CARIBOU – OUR LOVE

That old lady can walk pretty far for someone who can’t walk up stairs. Come to think of it, a motorized chair would be amazing on the dreaded Mondays! Anyway, this is the title-track from Caribou’s latest album, Our Love, which just so happens to be out now. Go listen to it, we think it’s sweeeeeet! (Are people still using that word?!”

SEGO – WICKET YOUTH

Sego is a dope ass duo from LA, who grew up in Utah. Their debut album is about to drop and we JUST CAN’T WAIT! This also happens to be the title-track. BONUS TITLE-TRACK DAY! If you ever get past the awesomeness of the video, you’ll hear that Wicket Youth is a f**kin’ great song too. Is Sego the best new indie artist of 2014? Totally possible!

ZOLA JESUS – DANGEROUS DAYS (LIVE ON KCRW)

Holy gosh! Nika AKA Zola Jesus is amazing in this live performance of Dangerous Days on KCRW. To be quite honest, you’ve probably heard this song already, but that’s what makes this version EVEN BETTER! And if this is the first time you’re hearing it, you’re welcome!

TENNYSON – WITH YOU

This is a pretty chilled track, perfect weekend anthem! Listen to this while you enjoy doing a whole bunch of nothing this weekend. And if you dig it as much as we do, check out more from Canadian electro act Tennyson because we bet you’d love the rest too. You can also check out how extremely young they are. Prodigy props to you guys!

VITA BERGEN – CURTAINS

Oh HELL YES! Vita Bergen is killing it with this track. OK, so get this – they’re a Swedish duo making indie music that sounds very folksy. This is their debut track and yes, they will be releasing a mini-album very, very soon. I already can’t wait to see them live. START TOURING ALREADY!

PENQUIN PRISON – CALLING OUT

It took me a while to get over the name Penguin Prison, but when I did I started to really get into the groove. A lot of weird dance moves occur while listening to this song, so be prepared! I’d suggest stretching beforehand. Calling Out is racking up the plays on Soundcloud like a penguin that’s just got out of prison. I guess I’m still not over the name!

HALOS – DUST

Looking for that real underground indie fix? Here it is! Halos have one track out, and this is it. Dust has done real well for itself since its release earlier this month and it gets me really excited for Halos forthcoming EP. But as always with real talent, everything is kept mysterious. Oh, the pain!

SHURA – INDECISION

This is the kind of stuff coming out of London these days, in case you didn’t know! And if you’re lucky enough to be in Europe, you can probably catch her live sometime soon. Lucky bastards! Anyway, if you’re looking for the breakthrough British indie artist of the year, you found her. You guys should really pay us for this stuff!

OK, folks! That’s this week’s best indie music done and dusted. But guess what? We’ll have more for you next week. Or will we? You’ll have to wait and see….

About Bianca Fernandes

Bianca Fernandes has an unfounded love for Taylor Swift and an unexplainable, burning hatred for Bob Dylan. In her opinion, that's the perfect combination to be a music reviewer. And she doesn't give an F about what you have to say about it. She writes for one person, and that's herself. Think grumpy cat with a weakness for music and watching Miley Cyrus twerk. But she does other things simply for cash, like social media, web content creation and some crazy blogging when necessary.
