BEST INDIE SONGS - WEEK 42 PART 2 2014

10/15/14

Hello, good people of the internet! I’m here to show you some really cool indie music that you probably haven’t heard of yet. You know, every time I think I’ve heard it all, when I’m down in the dumps and out of new music, when no one and nothing seems interesting in life, that’s when Bitcandy emails me a whole list full of surprisingly fresh and exhilarating indie music! That’s also when I’m my most happiest. And you know what? This is going to be your happiest time too. So enjoy it!

KARL KLING – I WILL WAIT

Portland DJ Karl Kling is pretty cool. His latest track I Will Wait is what would happen if Bleachers met Ben Gibbard (the Postal Service version) and they made sweet, sweet man love on a bed of synth. And that’s why I love this song. The end.

AS ELEPHANTS ARE – CROWN

Oooweeee! Crown is definitely one of the best tracks of the week, even though it didn’t make Best of Indie Part 1. These UK lads are some of the few men in the British music industry who aren’t in a boy band. Honestly! Instead they are making actual music that sounds pretty damn great. All of their tracks are getting tons of plays on Soundcloud, but this new one seems particularly catchy. But also, check out their Handprints EP, like ASAP.

BØRNS – 10, 000 EMERALD POOLS

Oh wow! This is seriously one of my favorite tracks OF THE YEAR. LA musician BØRNS (full name Garrett Borns) looks like a young, good looking Jack White. His debut track 10,000 Emerald Pools is breaking so many hearts, it’s hard to keep up with its rise across the big bad web. Almost 100,000 plays on Soundcloud in less than 2 weeks. Impressive! And all I want is more. MORE, MORE, MORE!

BANOFFEE – GOT IT

Dude, Banoffee is the best band name ever. EVER! Banoffee is the solo project of Australian singer and producer Martha Brown and it’s something you’ve got to pay attention to immediately. There’s something in the voices of female singers with Australian accents that just gets me every time. It’s very subtle, yet extremely pleasing! "Got It" is the perfect example of the cool things this girl is doing with her serious musical skillz. You just gotta love it!

PSYCHOLOGIST – WORLDS AWAY

Warning: Don’t watch this video while intoxicated! It can be quite frightening. Especially after that American Horror: Freak Show sh*t. Anyway, their debut album Autophobe LP is out early next year. Reeeal early! Like January 1st. You’ll be listening to this band with a hangover for sure!

COLD CLINICAL LOVE – BULLET YOUTH

Bullet Youth kind of sounds like “Bulletproof,” doesn’t it? I imagine this song will be very popular too. Let’s hope it’s summer where you are because this is a total summer anthem! But if it’s not summer, get out the bikinis anyway and just crank up the heat. That’s how I like to enjoy my indie music!

KEVBO BEATS – ROCK YOUR BODY

Oh My God! You’ve never heard a Justin Timberlake cover as good as this one. And by that I mean it sounds nothing like a Justin Timberlake song! Kevbo Beats is a skateboarding kid from LA - pretty much not at all who you’d expect behind this song. This guy has a totally amazing 34 song LP on Soundcloud that you need to listen to. Everyone else is!

LAKES – CIRCULAR MOTION

This guy’s voice is really appealing to me. Like I want to take a bath in it! LAKES is a duo from down, down under. Yup, New Zealand! They have a debut EP out called Reflections Of The Night Before and you need to hear it right now. Or later. But definitely sometime today!

HAYDEN CALNIN – I CORRUPT

After looking at Hayden Calnin’s mug, I expected nothing less than pure magic, and that’s what this is! I Corrupt is….ugh! It’s just SO GREAT! Apparently there are some amazingly talented musicians in Australia. Who knew?! Just kidding, mates. OK, but seriously – this is only his latest track and there’s plenty more where that came from! Also, probably one of the best things I’ve heard all year. I mean it.

THE BULLS – COME UNWOUND

This is one helluva debut single! The Bulls are a band from Echo Park, USA and I don’t really like judging bands off one amazingly brilliant, beyond fantastic song, but my feelings tell me otherwise. And I really can’t tell if that’s two girls or a guy and a girl but at least we know there’s definitely one girl. Yup, I’m a proper music journalist! I don’t care what you have to say about it.

-

OK, so now that we got all the happy out of the way, let’s get serious; who’s your favorite new indie artist of the year (so far)? WE NEED TO KNOW! Hit us up in the comments and we can argue about it like real internet trolls. Or if you’re a hipster, let’s have an intelligent debut over Google+. That’s where all the cool kids hang out now days, right?

About Bianca Fernandes

Bianca Fernandes has an unfounded love for Taylor Swift and an unexplainable, burning hatred for Bob Dylan. In her opinion, that's the perfect combination to be a music reviewer. And she doesn't give an F about what you have to say about it. She writes for one person, and that's herself. Think grumpy cat with a weakness for music and watching Miley Cyrus twerk. But she does other things simply for cash, like social media, web content creation and some crazy blogging when necessary.
