BEST NEW ELECTRO HOUSE: RACHEL K COLLIER - PAPER TIGER

3/22/17

Just when I thought the tunes from across the pond would slow down a little after an intense start to 2017, here comes another electro track from Europe by way of London. Welsh singer/producer Rachel K Collier is still delivering the thunder with her new track, "Paper Tiger."

RACHEL K COLLIER - PAPER TIGER

Unlike my prior electronica reviews earlier this week on We Are: The Guard, Collier’s sound is all about bumping beats and addictive hooks that is typical of the EDM and house mainstays. Typical in this sense is not any sort of criticism. Sure, the sound is not groundbreaking, but in terms of something that would get you hyped, "Paper Tiger" is a testament to her aptitude to create works worthy of radio play from the likes of Dutch superstar, Tiësto. Why change anything that works?

What separates her from the pack? She realizes the difficulty of embedding thought-provoking lyrics into electronically-charged tracks, but Collier manages to get them in there. Luckily, there is also a stripped-down, acoustic version which propels her lyrical-prowess and amazing voice to the forefront. Her vocals are fantastic, making it a worthwhile listen.

Just watching one of her many live performances on Youtube, you start appreciating just how much musical talent Collier possesses. She is doing all of it solo, as a producer and a vocalist. It is hard not to develop an appreciation, or in my case an obsession, with everything Rachel K Collier brings to the table. Memorable mixing, strong vocals, and thought-provoking lyrics. These are all ingredients to create something quite special. Be sure to check out her Ableton Live of Paper Tiger, now available on her Youtube channel.
