BEST NEW ELECTRONIC: BRODINSKI FT. COSANOSTRA KIDD - PEACES & BLESSINGS

4/7/17

This week’s slow burner of a banger comes to us via French producer & DJ, Brodinski, a man whose collabs I’ve felt have always resulted in 100 percent certified FIYAH. “Peaces & Blessings” is a joint track with Atlanta rapper CosaNostra Kidd, and We Are: The Guard want you to listen to this subtle electro rap tune.

BRODINKSI FT. COSANOSTRA KIDD - PEACES & BLESSINGS

Ladies & gents, I can’t describe Brodinski’s new track more accurately than this: some kooky-ass video game rap. CosaNostra Kidd is flowing over a beat that eerily reminds me of leveling up in Super Mario 64. Or unearthing a bunch of gold coins in a hidden area. Or cruising -- and then falling off -- Rainbow Road... You get the picture.

The soundscape Brodinski’s created in this is both zany and sinister. It’s not the type of track I’m used to either; at least, all of my favorite songs I bump from him are far more raucous, though by no means should you read this as a complaint, because “Peaces & Blessings” IS fun like a Mario Party (okay, I’m done with the N64 references). CosaNostra Kidd meanwhile, comes off attractively playful, and a little cocky, not that there’s anything wrong with that. But the highlight in “Peaces & Blessings” is the production itself. In terms of hyping me up, I’d give it a solid grade -- I can’t ever go wrong with minimal trap-rap.

Brodinski’s got a new EP out this coming Friday, with a slew of other features from Atlanta rappers. Has Brodinski found his niche? Check out Brain Disorder and find out.
