BEST NEW HIP HOP: JUICY J FEAT. OFFEST - FLOOD WATCH

8/9/17

A couple years back, I had the privilege of watching Juicy J perform at a club. It met all of my wild expectations and then some; he literally made it rain (I thought that just happened in hip hop fairy tales!!!), and thanks to that stunt, I had enough spare change at the end of the night for some Jack in the Box tacos. Juicy J’s party persona doesn’t seem like it can ever fall short, though. He can play at a child’s baptismal party and still have the entire family go HAM, or at least that’s what I assume (but how great would that special guest be, man?).

Case in point: when rappers are out here sampling legitimate instruments for the time being (I don’t need to remind you of the Mask Off flute frenzy earlier in ‘17), Juicy J has followed suit with a single that’s got some dazzling piano chords playing throughout. I’m talking some real Foreigner-”Cold-As-Ice” vibes. Listen to “Flood Watch” featuring Migos’ Offset below.

JUICY J - FLOOD WATCH FEAT. OFFSET

youtubeThe sample definitely comes from left field, but this is Juicy J that we’ve been talking about, and if he ever decided to drop “Flood Watch” at a live set, best believe I’m dropping down to the floor as low as my little knees can get me. Better yet, imagine belting this out on Tuesday karaoke nights. Among dueling pianos! RIGHT ON TIME!

It’s not “Bandz A Make Her Dance” hype level, but J and Offset get the job done with “Flood Watch.” I’m ready for some ‘80s ballad rap tracks to start taking over the radio now. Give it a few months for the trend to stew. Don’t say I didn’t tell ya.
