BEST NEW INDIE POP: BIEN - SPINNING ON BLUE

7/10/17

Emerging from Music City, USA, the indie pop trio called Bien delivers their newest single, "Spinning On Blue," filled with out-of-this-world beats and vocals that plunge the listener into an ever long daydream. With temperatures hitting triple digits in Los Angeles, We Are: The Guard presents something for you to enjoy your summer, hopefully with a glass of lemonade and ample air conditioning.

BIEN - SPINNING ON BLUE

I admit that this was the first time I have ever heard of Bien. Luckily, they are known to me, now. What a treat. "Spinning On Blue" paints a picture of a fantasy world with dreamy vocals and comfortably-passive instrumentals that appears to be plucked from a relaxation album. The resulting experience is one that gives the listener a pleasant sense of euphoria. Honestly, I feel relaxed and composed, and this is certainly no accident. Not entirely Lo-fi, Bien have created light and transcendent music that invokes spiritual calm. Similar to another of their new releases, "Stars Across The Sky," the sound is reminiscent of older stuff from Sleigh Bells, when Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss weren’t as loud and shouty.

It does seem like a second-coming of Sleigh Bells, but Bien is not as brazen and chaotic. Thus, they are soft, smooth alter-egos that we all needed in our lives for quite a long time. Good news, the wait is over. Label me pleasantly surprised. Good times are coming. It is time for Bien.
