BEST OF NEW MUSIC TUESDAY - WEEK 4

1/22/15

Hello everyone! Now that Morrissey is denying fans autographs due to “having ebola,” I think it even further proves that the man has stopped caring a long, long time ago. But good thing the artists on this week’s Best of Spotify New Music Tuesday are still ebola-free, because we have some awesome tracks from Lana Del Rey, Viet Cong, Lupe Fiasco, Fences, and more! And if you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe to our playlist and read on to discover this week’s best new music.

EMILE HAYNIE AND LANA DEL REY - WAIT FOR LIFE

Songwriter and producer Emile Haynie has worked with everyone from FKA Twigs to Eminem, so it’s only natural that he’s finally working with my girl Lana Del Rey on his latest track, “Wait For Life.” The orchestral-sounding track is the perfect fit for Lana’s haunting croon, and has me eager to hear the rest of his debut solo album, We Fall.

VIET CONG - SILHOUETTES

Off of their self-titled EP comes Viet Cong’s latest single, “Silhouettes,” and it’s packed full of menacing guitar chords, soaring synths, and deep and brooding vocals that I can’t get enough of. The postpunk track is also gaining a lot of buzz due to it’s awesomely retro sci-fi video that features space men and DOS-looking computer images, which I highly recommend you check out.

GENEVIEVE - COLORS

Former Company of Thieves front woman Genevieve is back with her debut solo single, “Colors,” and it’s everything you’d want in an alt-pop track. Featuring a stompy beat, energetic vocal layers, and positive lyrics about being yourself, it’s a catchy song you’ll probably be hearing on the radio between Tove-Lo and Natasha Bedinglfield any day now.

NIGHT TERRORS OF 1927 - SHINE

Synth-pop duo Night Terrors Of 1927, which consists of Rilo Kiley’s Blake Sennett and the Honorary Title’s Jarrod Gorbel, just released their debut album Everything’s Coming Up Roses that features their latest single, “Shine.” Featuring echoey drums, synths, shimmery guitars, and vocals reminiscent of The Killers, it’s a super catchy dark pop ballad.

LUPE FIASCO - DELIVER

Lupe Fiasco’s latest single, “Deliver,” off of his new album, Tetsuo & Youth, shines light on the reality of living in certain Chicago neighborhoods. Featuring backing vocals from Ty Dolla $ign and a synth line that carries most of the track, it has a number of quotable lyrics that will stick in your head like, “Little Caesar’s never sending pizza out y’all way/ Papa Johns never get delivered where y’a’ll stayed.”

GEORGE EZRA - BARCELONA

British singer-songwriter George Ezra is currently promoting his latest album, Wanted On Voyage, and his latest single “Barcelona” is a smooth guitar-driven track that showcases his raw and smokey vocals.

FIFTH HARMONY FEAT. KID INK - WORTH IT

Girl group Fifth Harmony teams up with Kid Ink on their brand new single, “Worth It” off of their upcoming debut album, Reflection (yeah, I thought it was out already too…oops!). Featuring horns reminiscent of Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty,” the R&B-meets-pop track features a ridiculously catchy hook that should be all over mainstream radio any day now.

FENCES - SUNBURNS

Seattle-based band Fences is back with their upcoming album, Lesser Oceans, which was produced by ex-Death Cab For Cutie songwriter/guitarist Chris Walla. Their new single, “Sunburns,” is an infectious indie-pop track that grabs you instantly with it’s bouncy beat and bass line, along with a energy-packed chorus that makes me anxious to hear the rest of the album.

MATT KEARNY - LOS ANGELES

Off of Matt Kearny’s current full length, Just Kids, comes the singer-songwriter’s latest single, “Los Angeles.” It’s an acoustic guitar-driven track with a hip-hop feel, serving as a nostalgic look back at how far he’s come as a musician trying to make it in LA. Ah, the struggle.

JOSE GONZALEZ - LEAF OFF/ THE CAVE

Swedish folk-songwriter Jose Gonzalez is finally back with his first solo album since 2007, Vestiges & Claws, which is due out next month and his new single “Leaf Off/ The Cave” is creating lots of buzz. It’s a relaxed-feeling track packed with airy vocals, lightly strummed acoustic guitar, hand claps and a slight tropical flare.
