BEST NEW POP: SOFI DE LA TORRE - VEWS OF YOU

4/22/17

Hard as I try to depict myself as a boss-ass b*tch on social media -- maroon lipstick, dad hat & all -- I’m only human. So if the wrong person comes knocking at my door at 3 AM on a Friday night, chances are I’ll make like Sofi de la Torre’s single and concede myself: “Fuck me up.” Check out her soulful new single, “Views of You,” featuring a verse from Taylor Bennett down below, and you’ll get why We Are: The Guard are left thinking back on those bad-decision booty calls.

SOFI DE LA TORRE - VIEWS OF YOU

International singer Sofi de la Torre prides herself in making “pop done right.” You get that sense immediately; there is nothing bland about Sofi’s rather personal song, despite how melancholy it begins. Her dusky vocals make “Views of You” an incredibly vulnerable pop track, one that will unearth a well of emotions and memories you probably don’t want to relive: of trying to please someone you won’t ever fully satisfy; willingly sacrificing slices of your soul for someone who would never return the favor. Oh, man. Come to think of it, “Views of You” is pretty sad AF -- even Taylor’s verse emits a somber flow.

But hey, there’s nothing wrong with being sad sometimes, and Sofi’s R&B-infused pop makes being lonely sound so good. “Views of You” is a soft, universal love song that tells the perils of heartbreak -- and recalls the stinging cons of being a side chick. Careful with keeping this one on repeat, everyone. You’ll find yourself singing along with a bottle of wine mysteriously placed around your arm.

Sofi de la Torre’s Soundcloud is over here. Check it, boos.
