BEST NEW SONGS: BILLIE EILISH - SIX FEET UNDER

6/29/16

Can we stop we these impossibly young and impossibly talented pop acts for a minute! It’s really doing a number on my self-esteem. Are you having a good day? Well get ready to have it ruined by Billie Eilish, the 14 year old songstress who’s followed up her viral hit, “Ocean Eyes” (which peaked at #3 on Spotify’s Global Charts), with an even stronger jam: “Six Feet Under.”

Produced by her older brother, Billie Eilish creates broodingly somber pop songs that are rightfully drawing comparisons to Lana, Birdy, and AURORA. By contrast, when I was 14 I was wearing puka shell necklaces and people were noting the similarities between my physical appearance and a sack of potatoes. “Six Feet Under” tells the tale of the end of a romantic relationship. I’d like to make a quip here about her age and her likely lack of experience in that realm, but this track is so haunting and gorgeous I can’t bring myself to do it.

BILLIE EILISH - SIX FEET UNDER

While we all anxiously await whatever Billie does next, here are the lyrics to “Six Feet Under”:

Help, I lost myself again
But I remember you
Don't come back, at home and well
But I wish you told me to

Our love is six feet under
I can't help but wonder
If our grave was water, by the rain
'Cause once was blue
'Cause once was blue
Again

We trace my lips
You raise your touch
You talk too much for me
But all well like smoking air
How can you die carelessly?

Our love is six feet under
I can't help but wonder
If our grave was water, by the rain
'Cause once was blue
'Cause once was blue
Again

They're playing our song
They're letting us die tonight
And all of these clouds pulling us back to life
It's cool as the night

Six feet under
I can't help but wonder
If our grave was water, by the rain
Uuh uuh uuh
Uuh uuh uuh
Again
Help, I lost myself again
But I remember you
