BEST NEW SONGS: HUDSON MOHAWKE - ESCAPE

1/7/16

For the seventh year in a row, Lucky Me Records is rolling out their Advent Calendar, in which they release a free download every day from December 27th through January 6th. You’re gonna wanna follow that link, trust me.

One of the songs they featured in this year's Advent Calendar was a reworking of the main theme from John Carpenter’s 1981 dystopian classic, Escape From New York, by the honorable Scotsman Hudson Mohawke. And with all due respect to the original theme, which Carpenter also co-wrote, this version sounds like some shit Snake Plissken could really get down to. The GOOD Music DJ and electronica artist cleans up the original, giving it some needed crispness while adding enough distortion to give the song some edge. Listen to it below, then see how it stacks up to the original.

And for our younger readers, many of whom were likely born after 1997, here’s the trailer for what is surely Kurt Russell’s chef-d'oeuvre.

Note to those younger readers: chef-d'oeuvre is French for Masterpiece. Also, you may remember Kurt Russell from such films as Sky High, in which he played The Commander.
