BEST NEW TRACKS: DENM - LIT (DE HOFNAR REMIX)

Here at We Are: The Guard, we love a good remix. De Hofnar takes DENM’s garage pop and turns it up on his reimagining of “Lit.” De Hofnar, aka Jeroen Maas, is known to interlace electronic hums with classic sounds. Essentially, while some remixers like to make their versions unrecognizable, he specializes in twisting beats ever so slightly to highlight their most magical notes.

So this is very clearly still a DENM song, with his dreamy melody and husky vocals, but the melody veers you off to a new end on the same spectrum. DENM’s original track is what we’d sway to on a rooftop on a warm summer night with a couple of beers whereas De Hofnar’s remix makes us want to spin out of control on a club dancefloor. There is some extra bass on this new rendition and everything sounds a bit faster. De Hofnar’s variety is where melodic and deep house meet under catchy, feel-good lyrics. How can lyrics like, “I just want to dance / I just want to feel good” not inspire you to sing along?
