BEST NEW TRACKS: WOLF ALICE - YUK FOO

6/16/17

Wolf Alice have been around for a minute apparently, but they are completely new to me. Maybe I’m just living under a rock, or maybe I’m just not British. But now their major new tunes are colliding with my ear cavities, and I’m liking what I’m hearing. I’m sure this is happening now because they’re headed in a new, mega-interesting direction and the world (or just me) is always ready to listen to exciting artists getting even more exciting. After being selected as 2013’s “single most blogged about artist in the UK” by BBC Radio 6 and receiving nominations for the Mercury Prize and Grammy (Best Rock Performance) the foursome are back and ready to shed their alternative ways for a little bit brasher of a sound.

WOLF ALICE - YUK FOO

Woah, the #genre #tag on #soundcloud of #alternative definitely led me down the wrong assumption alley on this one. I would never have in a million years imagined “Yuk Foo” to have all of the raw and brutal punk rock madness on display here. This pure, unbated energy of fury and hatred hasn’t been spotted in these here parts since Johnny Lydon and Sid Vicious begged for Anarchy in the UK. Wolf Alice owes as much to X-Ray Spex as they do Sonic Youth and I’d never expect to use those two bands in the same sentence. Keep up the vitriol guys, it looks good on you.

From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
