Alright, I’ll be honest with you guys: I still don’t know what the hell BabyMetal is, or why I can’t stop listening to them, or why I’ve watched their new video, “Karate,” for what feels like a week straight. I just know that these things are happening. And I’m fairly certain I’m not alone.

The world conquering J Pop stars are gearing up to release their sophomore LP this April, and are following that up with a world tour. “Karate” is the first single we’ve heard off Metal Resistance, and it’s as effortlessly catchy as everything else BabyMetal does. The video for “Karate” finds our heroine fighting martial arts masters, ghosts, and other monsters in fanatically fashionable outfits in a dramatically lit setting. It’s EPIC. Or at the very least, highly watchable.

The trio of Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto), Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) were put together by a talent agency, but even I can ignore that anti-authentic smack and enjoy this unabashed fun for what it is. This is pure gimmick anyway, it helps that it sounds great too.
