Best Songs: Fischerspooner 'Emerge'

New York's Fischerspooner were among the glitter spewing artists to ride the neon Peaches wave in the early noughties. They only had one hit, “Emerge,” but it was good enough to secure the duo their rightful place in the electroclash history books, and far more importantly, in BitCandy's Best Songs Ever club! Uh-huh, that's right:

Initially released in 2001, “Emerge” was the first single to be lifted from Fischerspooner's debut album, #1. The song peaked at #18 on the dance chart, but it did not make it on to the Hot 100. The Brits were a lil' more receptive. They got the song to #25. And, hey! It was a Top 20 hit in Belgium! Not yet convinced? Well how about if I told you that, in 2010, Pitchfork placed the song at #243 on their The Top 500 Tracks of the 2000s list?

The song has since featured in the films, D.E.B.S. and Coachella, the tube shows, Nip/Tuck and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, the video games, Gran Turismo 4 and SSX 3, and the touring art installation, SonicVision (which looks, and sounds, all kinds of awesome).

“Emerge” came accompanied by two music videos: the one that you saw above, and this one right here, which was released in 2003, when Fischerspooner reissued their meal ticket for a third time. A few years ago, the duo finally retired “Emerge” as they, I quote, didn't want to be “a slave to a hit.” But, in 2011, Fischerspooner resurrected today's Best Songs Ever especially for a Columbian audience at Rock al Parque.
