BEST OF SPOTIFY NEW MUSIC TUESDAYS - WEEK 3

1/16/15

Hello everyone! So tell me— How do you feel about the Oscar nominations? Yeah, to be quite honest I don’t really care all that much either (good thing I write for a music blog!), but I totally think The Lego Movie was snubbed. Anyway, we’ve got another awesomely filtered playlist featuring only the best tracks from Spotify’s New Music Tuesday playlist! So be sure to subscribe and sit back to hear the latest from Panda Bear, Aesop Rock, Purity Ring, and more!

CHELSEA LANKES - SECRET

Today we kick things off with up and coming Nashville native, Chelsea Lankes, and her latest single, “Secret.” Being the follow up to her buzzed about 2013 single, “Ghost,” it’s a totally captivating pop song packed with dreamy synths and Lankes’ delicate vocals that give off a “Robyn” vibe. I think this might be my favorite song this week!

WATERSTRIDER - WHITE LIGHT

Oakland-based five piece, Waterstrider, have created a radio-ready indie rock hit with their latest single, “White Light.” Packed with shimmering guitar work, busy drum beats, and lead singer Nate Salman’s powerful falsetto vocals, it’s a warming, feel-good track you’ll totally dig.

LAPSLEY - BROWNLOW

18 year old Holly Lapsley Fletcher, aka Lapsley, has been charming listeners with her angelic vocals and gorgeous production style on her Understudy EP. Her track “Brownlow” is completely enchanting, as it features light and airy synths, subtle electronics, and a soothing beat that will keep you coming back.

SUSANNE SUNDFOR - DELIRIOUS

New singer-songwriter, Susanne Sundfor, will completely blow you away with her epic synth-filled track, “Delirious.” The track has one hell of an introduction, and then as it progresses you’re faced with dark synths, hard-hitting beats, strings, and Sundfor’s powerful vocals. The Norwegian songstress will easily win you over with her intriguing and fresh sound.

PANDA BEAR - BOYS LATIN

Off of Panda Bear’s latest album, Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper, comes the new single, “Boys Latin.” The track has been generating lots of buzz due it’s awesomely trippy animated music video, but the song can easily stand on it’s own as well. Featuring some crazy vocal melodies and busy but calming electronics, it’s a psychedelic masterpiece. And fun fact— The song got it’s name from a Baltimore Catholic prep school. #TheMoreYouKnow

AESOP ROCK - CAT FOOD

San Francisco’s Matthias Bavitz, better known as Aesop Rock, is back with a new track, “Cat Food.” Originally the single was only available to fans who purchased his Kid Robot figurine, but due to popular demand he made it available by itself as a 7-inch called the “Cat Food” EP. Produced by Blockhead, the track is awesomely menacing and features Aesop Rock’s solid flow.

PURITY RING - BEGIN AGAIN

Purity Ring will release their sophomore album, Another Eternity, on March 3rd, but is tiding fans over with their latest single, “Begin Again.” Megan James’ delicate vocals carry the track, along with Corrin Roddick’s use of fuzzy beats and dramatic synth lines that make for a well-crafted and dark electropop track.

GAVIN JAMES - THE BOOK OF LOVE

Dublin-based singer-songwriter, Gavin James, will punch you right in the feels with his acoustic guitar-driven track, “The Book of Love.” Featuring his milky smooth vocals, the song includes appropriately cheesy lyrics that are perfect for the Ed Sheeran-style love song. The single is from his new live album, Live At Whelans.

FJORD - BLUE

New Canadian duo, Fjord, will totally captivate you with their latest single, “Blue.” Featuring deep and brooding female vocals, skittering beats, and gloomy ambient electronic elements, it’s a dream-pop track that has a wonderfully moody vibe.

MATT AND KIM - GET IT

Spunky indie-pop duo, Matt and Kim, just announced their fifth album, New Glow, which is due out in April and released a brand new track, “Get It.” The upbeat track is classic Matt and Kim, as it’s packed with funky keys, bouncy drums, and vocals you’ll be singing along to in no time.
