BEST OF SPOTIFY'S NEW MUSIC TUESDAYS - WEEK 1

12/30/14

Hello everyone! 2015 is quickly approaching, and we’ve decided to do a little something new. Every Tuesday, Spotify releases a slew of new music and we here at BitCandy have narrowed it down and filtered out our top choices of the week. Since we’re going to be doing this weekly, be sure to subscribe to our playlist and stay up to date with the latest tracks worth hearing! This week we have the latest from The Weeknd, Ghost Loft, Hannah Diamond, and more to help you ring in the new year in style.

LUCY (HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE) - OLIVVER THE KID

After parting ways with The Neighbourhood, Los Angeles-singer/songwriter Bryan Sammis has been busy making music under the name, Olivver The Kid. “Lucy (Hurt People Hurt People)” is a slow burning electropop track full of synths, claps, and his signature milky-smooth vocals that will leave you humming the track for the rest of the day while asking, “The Neighbourhood…who’s that?”

I’M GONNA SHOW YOU CRAZY - BEBE REXHA

I think 25 year old Bebe Rexha will totally find mainstream success with her latest single, “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy.” It’s a pop-rock track with electronic elements thrown into the mix that make for a super strong chorus that showcases her awesome songwriting skills. The New Yorker’s vocals are packed with both power and emotion that prove she has a lot more to offer. This is totally my favorite track on this week’s list and I can’t wait to hear more from her!

EARNED IT (FIFTY SHADES OF GREY) - THE WEEKND

Just in case someone out there was still interested, Fifty Shades of Grey still hasn’t hit theaters but the soundtrack is about to be unleashed upon us (yes—there’s more than that slowed-down version of “Drunk In Love.”) The Weeknd’s track, “Earned It,” is the perfect kind of soft-crooning, R&B style that the soundtrack needs to get lonely moms everywhere in the mood.

TALK TO ME - GHOST LOFT

Danny Choi, aka Ghost Loft creates a wonderfully dreamy, magical sounding slow-burner with his least single, “Talk To Me.” Featuring thumping bass, 80’s-inspired synths, shiny electric guitars, and echoey sounding vocals, it’s an energetic yet calming track that you’ll keep coming back to. The video itself is quite fitting, as it features cars racing through dimly-lit highways.

WHEN I LEAVE - JAMES VINCENT MCMORROW

Dublin singer/songwriter, James Vincent McMorrow will totally grab your attention (if he hasn’t already) with his latest soulful single, “When I Leave.” The song takes many different turns throughout it’s duration, with it’s blend of perfectly placed synths, electronic beats, soaring atmospherics, and some chill-inducing falsetto vocals that will keep you coming back to his material.

EVERY NIGHT - HANNAH DIAMOND

Coming from PC Music (you know—the group of artists who make awesome but obnoxiously cute pop songs) is British singer, Hannah Diamond. Her latest single, “Every Night” features sugary-sweet synths, cute drum machine beats, and choppy sweet vocals that are the perfect ingredients for infectious Japanese-influenced dance pop.

DON’T FORGET ME - VALISE

Dallas indie pop quartet, Valise, gives us some awesome Death Cab For Cutie vibes on their latest single, “Don’t Forget Me.” Featuring thundering drums, sparkling guitars, falsetto vocals, and huge, soaring choruses, it’s the perfect epic indie ballad to hit you right in the feels. Plus, it features plenty of “ooohs” to have you singing along in no time.

STUCK IN A SECOND - WILDHART

Swedish electronic newcomers, Wildhart, are already creating some buzz with their debut track, “Stuck In A Second.” Featuring frantic drum machine beats, soaring electronic elements, and plenty of magical sounding synths, its everything you need for electropop gold. The vocal melodies are memorable and catchy, and lead singer Ylva Holmdahl will totally make you fall in love with her vocals. After listening, I’m sure you’ll join me in anticipating their next release.
