Childish Gambino - Still No Choruses

5/29/12

Sometimes we here at Bitcandy have to take our cues from movies based off the Coen Bros ideas:

Willie brings up a good point: they can't all be winners. Not even our Latest Music Tracks are all going to be standout tracks. Which brings us to Childish Gambino's new song, "Black Faces (Feat. Nipsey Hussle)."

Sadly, as has become par for the course for the former dong lover, the rapping = exceptional, but the song = sing that back to me?  I thought so. But don't take my word for it, listen for yourself below.

Once again you have an inspired verses from Mr. Glover, but a beat and chours that leaves almost everything to be desired.  And that's what separates the Asian fetish boys from the Kanye's, Eminem's, Drake and Cudi's.

On his soundcloud page, Gambino lists Boi-1da as the producer, which is a good call because I certainly want to be on the hook for this beat. This honestly sounds like something off the Lonely Island record. Or the generic GarageBand version of a Watch the Throne style beat. Glover is an undeniable talent, but he should probably pick the people he works with a little more carefully.

What do you think of "Black Faces"? Is Childish Gambino a legitimately talented rapper, or just a social media flash-in-the-pan? What do you think of Boi-1da's beat? Is it cool that Boi-1da spelled his name all fucked up, or is 'text-lingo' played? Is Community even a good show, or has TV sitcoms devolved to the point that people flock to it because it happens to be the least shitty option out there (see also: Parks & Rec)?
