Top Chillwave Songs - Week 43 2013

10/25/13

If you're sick and tired of reading about Kim and Kanye's “f*cking ridiculous” engagement, close your eyes and pretend none of this is really, actually happening, with the help of this week's top chillwave songs! Thanks to the Curators who helped with today's pickings from Active Child, Moko and more. If you think you've got what it takes to be a Curator, click here! (Artwork by Casey Liu.)

Active Child “Silhouette (Feat. Ellie Goulding)”

Oops, my ovaries exploded. Active Child and Ellie Goulding team up on this song from Pat Grossi's latest EP, Rapor. Their voices compliment each other thoroughly. God's pumping this out in Heaven.

Alice Boman “Waiting” (Curator Pucken)

Alice Boman caught both me, and Adrian Recordings by surprise. The label had no intention to sign any more artists, but they couldn't resist Alice. As for me, I had a spontaneous crying fit at this song.

Alt J “Breezeblocks (Sebastian Carter Remix)”

Trap up and bliss out to Nordic producer, Sebastian Carter's mad chill reworking of  “Breezeblocks” by Alt J. If you dig it, head to his SoundCloud for more reworkings of Banks, Foals and Passion Pit.

Moko “Freeze”

Moko has to be my favorite discovery this October. Hailing from Britain, the 21 year old singer, and according to this, dancer, is far ahead of her years in terms of voice, listening to her debut EP, Black.

Úlfur “Heaven In A Wildflower” (Curator Beca)

Apologies to fuck the page up with a Vimeo embed, but Iceland composer, Úlfur, has taken time out from touring with Jónsi in order to unveil a debut album, White Mountain, and it's incredibly gorge.

SOHN “Lessons (XO Remix)”

Sunil Heera, also known as XO, returns with yet another flawless reworking, this time of the SOHN cut, “Lessons.” For more luscious, deep house reworkings like this, dig around Sunil's SoundCloud.

James Vincent McMorrow “Cavalier”

The genre “R&B” has been applied to a heck of a lot of material over the last few years, but here's a straight up classic dose taken from, erm, Ireland? A brave stylistic departure for this one time folkie.

Josh Record “Bones (FTSE Remix)”

“Bones” has been reworked by Alt J and Fryars on Josh Record's upcoming EP, but my favorite edit is courtesy of FTSE, who strips things back in order to create a truly magical version of the original.

FAUL “Changes (Feat. Wad Ad)” (Curator Beca)

Summertime is drawing to a conclusion for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, but that doesn't mean it's over in our heads, namely when a sample of Pnau's “Baby” is dancing around them. Vibes.

The Beatles “Come Together (David August Remix)”

And now for something completely different, as The Beatles of comedy, Monty Python, used to say. Did you see what I did there? Anyways, from one Beatles fan to another, this isn't at all sacrilegious.
