COURTSHIP - TELL ME TELL ME

soundcloud “Tell Me Tell Me” is undoubtedly trying to close out the last few days of summer in the biggest way, meshing a tropical beat with vocals that are somewhat opaque, light and lofty like the newest incarnation of modern Shoegaze. With a vocal delivery style that is muffled and obscured, deciphering the lyrics might be the most difficult challenge with this one. Thus, it doesn't feel too far off from something off the Pains of Being Pure of Heart discography, hiding the true words and meaning with a pristine and joyous presentation. You will not get the gritty details without looking over the lyrics online.

As the current trajectory of alternative rock is getting increasingly electronic-heavy, sounding closer and closer to something at an EDM festival or a Top-40 playlist, this appears to be rubbing off on the independent circuit. Still, groups like courtship. are still determined to differentiate themselves from the pack, leading to an increasing amount of intriguing efforts that are catchy as well as distinguishing. “Tell Me Tell Me” is one of these efforts, whetting their fans' appetites before their co-headlining tour, including a nice little stop at the Bootleg Theater here in Los Angeles.
