TOP DANCE SONGS - WEEK 50 2014

12/9/14

Sure I could be out partying with the best of them tonight. This is LA, there’s a party every single goddamn night of the week. But instead I’m sitting in on this Sunday night, drinking a delicious 32 oz of Miller High Life, scouring the internet for the freshest music jam party songs for y’all.

Good thing the internet made it really easy for me this week. There were tons and tons and tons of rad/awesome/cool/v listenable music jam party songs!!!

HELL YEAH! New music from Avicii, Riton, Seven Lions & Xilent. Make sure to listen to that Carmada EP and that REZZ track. Actually, just listen to all of these tracks— they’re all awesome. I picked em special for ya! :)

AXWELL ^ INGROSSO - CAN'T HOLD US DOWN

Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso are going to rule over 2015 so massively, it’s not even funny.  This is a great lead in french electro tinged single to their “oh my god, I can’t fucking wait” record and what I’m sure will be a MASSIVE tour. Get ready, EVERY festival these dudes weren’t at last year, the Swedish House Mafia boys are taking Big Room back.

CARMADA - REALISE EP

LDRU and Yahtzel have teamed up and formed another awesome future-bass Aussie Supergroup. A couple of weeks ago I posted Maybe, but now we get to hear all four tracks on their EP and it’s absolutely fucking stunning. This is excitingly reminiscent of their homies from down under (What So Not) while not feeling derivative at all. Can’t wait to see where these dudes go with this project.

BUNT. - HARMONICA

CountrYDM is as real as it comes now. Avicii successfully got the good old boys to fuck with four on the floor and the world is a much worse place because of it. Let’s leave the harmonica to Blues Traveler, BUNT.

AVICII - THE NIGHTS

Avicii, too sick to tour, went back to the studio to pump out a whole new batch of hook laden EDM country pop. Sorry haters, but this shit is way way catchy. I’ll gladly take this as a new Avicii gem that fits perfectly in the new oeuvre he’s had since he came out with Wake Me Up.

NELLY FURTADO X TIMBALAND - PROMISCUOUS (DR. FRESCH REMIX)

Dr. Fresch is one of the undercard players in the future house movement. I started hearing his name everywhere after working with Oliver Heldens on a couple of tracks. But here, The Dr. is coming into his own, remixing Nelly Furtado and Timbaland’s sexy R&B classic Promiscuous with some of the fattest bass I’ve heard this side of Justin Martin.

MUST DIE! - HELLCAT (ANNIX REMIX)

The original remix of Must Die!’s Hellcat was already pretty hyphy. But I’ll take this sped up, drum & bass kick led Annix remix anyday. Taking all my favorite parts of the original and transforming it onto a genre I actually like listening to.

REZZ - CONTORTED

I heard this song in the middle of a mix and I whipped out Shazam faster than I think I ever have before. This is some fun and funky dark minimal techno bass shit here with an appallingly catchy, deeply controlled bassline. I CANNOT get enough of  it. Made by a 19 year old Canadian girl, to boot.

RITON - NEED YOUR LOVE FT. JAGGA

This party starter from Riton and Jagga is super fucking fresh and unique. The minimal tech-house beat underneath the verses from Jagga turns on a dime into one of the bounciest wobbliest funkiest tracks I’ve heard all year.

SEVEN LIONS & XILENT - THE FALL

Seven Lions makes emotional and beautiful dubstep, with huge soaring progressive sounds that absolutely RIP. Combine that with Xilent’s unique brand of neuro funk and we’ve got something really special here. Props to Seven Lions for bringing Xilent and neuro funk to people’s attention. I know my boy Hendo is psyched about that.

KYGO - FIRESTONE (FT. CONRAD)

Kygo’s first original production is definitely worth talking about, it’s just a shame it’s not very good. The Norwegian Tropical House whizz kid makes his first major mis-step, ultimately sounding sort of generic. Maybe he’ll be the first major artist to not do anything but remixes. I wouldn’t mind.

Thanks for reading guys, SEE YOU NEXT WEEK.

About Kurt Kroeber

From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
