Gitchee gitchee yaya babies! How are you all doing on this fine hump day? I know we are ready to kick off the midweek with another round of the best Indie pop music. This week we’re featuring music from LÉON, DISCLOSURE, CHARLI XCX, AND MORE. The playlist below won’t make life any better but it sure will help keep you mind off the crap show we’re living through. Wooo!

LÉON - AND IT BREAKS MY HEART

Does anyone else get goosebumps at the sound of LÉON's voice? This singer hits all those trigger points that make the heart pump and feel alive in every damn song. Her latest single “And It Breaks My Heart” is no different. The infectious melody has you dancing along as you do an ugly cry because it’s so beautiful

HONNE - BY MY SIDE

I promise the beat will pick up in a bit … but let’s first dive into HONNE’s “By My Side.” If you’ve never been hurt emotionally by anyone like good for you. High five! For all those who have experienced heartache … this is for you, for me, for us. Get your tissues.

GLASS ANIMALS - HEAT WAVES

Seems like this pandemic has everyone feeling somewhat rather blue. But hey, these emotions make for freaking fresh songs. Glass Animals can no longer stand the heatwave and is losing his shit in an artistic and loving way. Here’s a little background front the artists himself “The song is about loss and longing, and ultimately realizing you are unable to save something...and this video is about that but for art, being together, and human contact. “

ELLIE GOULDING - SLOW GRENADE FEAT. LAUV

Ellie Goulding sounds like a vision, but when has she not? Ammma riiight? Between her vocals and those of Lauv ooooof! “Slow Grenade” is fire and an experience in itself. Beautiful production that will be better appreciated with a good pair of headphones.

DOMINIC FICKE - CHICKEN TENDERS

Dominic had me at chicken tenders! Who knew that food sounded so sexy and fun! Thanks to Dominic Ficke we can all add chicken tenders to our summer bucket list because if you haven’t had meat all over your bed then you haven’t lived life at all.

CHARLI XCX - ENEMY

Charli XCX is QUEEN. Only she can take us back to nostalgia road and to a time where things felt somewhat more normal. It might be the soothing synths in the background or the narrating if where it hurts. In “Enemy” there is a sense of comfort that is quite disturbing since she is walking about a possible enemy. Wait … what?

TY DOLLA $IGN - EGO DEATH (KANYE WEST, FKA TWIGS & SKRILLEX)

There’s too much going on in “Ego Death.” I think it’s best left to be left to your own interpretation. I’m curious to know your thoughts. Please do share … I need some human connection.

THE 1975 - DON’T WORRY

I wasn’t going to post The 1975 but it’s kind of like a mandatory thing ya know. So here’s The 1975 spreading some love and tenderness, reminding us that they are there for us and that this darkness shall one day pass. In fact, play “Don’t Worry” and you’ll see the clouds part, and rays of sunshine will brush your face, and little blue birds will come to your window and sign you a song.

LOUIS THE CHILD, K FLAY - WE ALL HAVE DREAMS

Yasss! This is what we all need to be chanting right now: Wake up in the morning to be something, babe / But keep on getting blinded by the negative / My mind is on the run I gotta learn to sprint / If I wanna win, if I wanna win. Shake off the negativity and keep on pushing!

DISCLOSURE, AMINE, SLOW THAI - MY HIGH

Holy Sheeeet! “My High” is pure fire. Caution as your devices may light up in flames! All we can say is thank you for this beast of a song! Now if you’ll excuse me ... I need to go recollect myself.

Thanks for hanging out with us. Be sure to get your butts back to We Are: The Guard next Wednesday as we uncover more of the best indie pop songs in the universe.

New Song Course - Learn How to Write A Hit Song

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
