7/1/20

July already? Time is just flying by and what seems like a never ending nightmare just keeps going and going. It’s exhausting, but luckily we have music. Keep fighting the good fight, but be sure to take a second to take care of yourself. As usual, here are our top Indie Pop favs. We’re at one of the most interesting times in pop music, so I’m using that word in a broader sense of the genre I suppose. Anyway, stay safe, wear a mask, register to vote, and listen to the best new indie pop songs!

OVERKILL - HOLLY HUMBERSTONE

Holly Humberstone has done it again, folks! Great sounding guitars? Check. Her amazing voice? Check. Relatable lyrics? Check. Combining all of that to equal the type of song you can play over and over again? You bet.

DO YOU EVEN MISS ME AT ALL - BRITTON

Britton asks the hard questions on new track “do you even miss me at all?” One of the worst things to watch is an ex move on before you do. But here’s the thing, my friends, it might be hard to believe right now, but someone better for you will come around! Until then, Britton’s got your back.

LOVE SOMEBODY - LAUV

Lauv is back with a new EP of indie pop gold. On “Love Somebody,” Lauv expresses that the last thing he wants is to hurt his partner. He doesn’t want to have the difficult conversations, he doesn’t mean to lead anyone on. All he wants is to “love somebody.”

MAD AT DISNEY - SALEM ILESE

Indie pop artist salem ilese is mad, and we are right there with her. We’ve all grown up with this weird, idealistic version of what love is supposed to be thanks to the movies. Maybe some people get their fairytale happily ever after, but most of us just get hurt or confused or find ourselves in situations that the princess movies wouldn’t even dream of depicting.

COLD WAR - ARI

Looking for an explosive chorus? BAM! Here it is. ARI’s “COLD WAR” examines the clash of her two worlds: her hometown life in Toronto, and her new life as an artist in LA. Afraid that the two realities can’t co-exist, paranoia eats away at her.

LONELY NIGHTS - NOELLE JOHNSON

No one is safe from the invisible enemy- no, not Trump’s nickname for COVID-19 (but please wear a mask). I’m talking about loneliness. Noelle Johnson is looking to “say goodbye to lonely nights.” With catchy melodies, lush production, and expressive vocals, this relatable indie pop track is one to listen to when you want to feel less alone about being alone.

IF THIS IS THE LAST TIME - LANY

After you finish crying because of this song PLEASE CALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND TELL THEM YOU LOVE THEM! “If this is the last time” reminds us to make the best of every moment that we have with the people around us. Especially now when it’s easy to feel bitter about so many things, we could all use this beautiful reminder from LANY.

STATE OF EMOTION - ELLA VOS

With cool guitars, skillful vocals, and clever metaphors, Ella Vos lets us into a whirlwind of feelings. Relationships are hard, especially when communication gets lost. Trying to interpret your own emotions, let alone someone else's, is SO difficult, and Vos gets this message across with “State of Emotion.”

I hope these songs brought you a moment of peace during this crazy time. Now get back out there and be amazing! Also, be sure to come back next week for more of our favorite new indie pop songs!
