10/27/16

What’s that? Your co-workers are having an uncomfortably heated political debate? Well, luckily we’re here just in time to swoop in and save you with more of the best indie tracks of the week! We have the latest from Anderson Paak’s new project, NxWorries, Run the Jewels, Laurel, Honne, and much more! So put on your headphones, download that new Pokemon Go update (what? I can’t be the only person still playing), and read on to ring in Halloween-time in style!

NXWORRIES - GET BIGGER

R&B singer songwriter ANDERSON PAAK has teamed up with hip-hop producer KNXWLEDGE for their hyped new project, NxWorries. Their track, “Get Bigger,” is a laid back, slow grooving jam that is perfect for chilly fall afternoons. We can’t wait to hear what else NxWorries releases next!

SHITKID - OH PLEASE BE A COCKY COOL KID

Up and coming Swedish songwriter SHITKID has sunk in her hooks with her catchy, grunge pop-infused track, “Oh Please be a Cocky Cool Kid.” In an awesomely distorted tone she spits sassy lyrics over a ticking lo-fi beat and bassy synths. It’s strangely hypnotic and you’ll find yourself left wanting more.

WIL$ON - HOT

21 year old Los Angeles native WIL$ON is a brand new rapper that is quickly creating buzz with his fiery new track, “Hot” (produced by Cook&Jango). The track features an intricate fast-ticking beat, funky synths, and his fiery delivery that captures you instantly. Right after the 1:00 mark the chorus hits with blasts of 90s’-inspired synths, bubbling electronics, and tons of snaps that will keep you coming back for repeat listens. The video itself is totally worth checking out as it gives you a fish-eye view of life.

GIANT PARTY - WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?

“Where Have You Been?” is the creepy debut track from newcomers GIANTPARTY and we think it’s totally perfect for your Halloween party playlists. Sneaky-sounding piano, subtle guitar, and a solid drum beat keep you moving, while charming vocal harmonies give the track an almost hypnotizing vibe. We’re totally in love.

ALEX IZENBERG - TO MOVE ON

New singer songwriter ALEX IZENBERG has completely won us over with his distinct vocal style on his track, “To Move On.” It’s a piano-driven pop track filled with horns, retro-influenced backing vocals, and a ton of emotion that proves we’re going to be hearing a lot more from this special new artist in the future.

LAUREL - HURRICANE

From her upcoming album Park comes singer songwriter LAUREL and her brand new single, “Hurricane.” The Southampton-based artist instantly sends chills down your spine with her haunting vocals and eerie instrumentals that manage to keep an infectious pop-feel.

SWMRS - HANNAH

Oakland band SWMRS just released their ode to Miley and her alter ego, Hannah Montana. “Hannah” is a dazed out track that you’ll totally fall in love with. Especially with lines like “math class kills me/ weed makes me silly/ I like good music/ don't you wanna love me?,” you can’t help but slip into a hazy teenage dream.

HONNE - FHKD (FEAT. KILL J)

HONNE’S new track, “FHKD” slowly eases you in with soft atmospherics and lo-fi intro vocals that calmly sing, “don’t fight it girl…we’re on to something beautiful.” Once things pick up with a popping beat, uplifting atmospherics, you’re hit with Kill J’s awesomely distinct and sugary vocals. It’s simply a beautiful track that you wont want to pass up.

PHANTOGRAM - YOU DON’T GET ME HIGH ANYMORE (HOW TO DRESS WELL REMIX)

Phantogram’s alt-radio hit, “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore” got an awesome remix thanks to How To Dress Well. The track now takes on a more light and airy feel, with softly bubbling atmospherics, soft beats, and slightly altered vocals that allows the track to shine in an entirely new light.

GOODY GRACE - GIRLS IN THE SUBURBS SINGING SMITHS SONGS

First of all, let me just say that I think that “Girl In The Suburbs Singing Smiths Songs” is a great song title. New comer GOODY GRACE gives us a melancholy yet calming track that keeps your attention with noteworthy lyrics and stripped down instrumentation.

RUN THE JEWELS - TALK TO ME

It’s been two whole years since RUN THE JEWELS released their sophomore album, RTJ2, and now they are back with a brand new single, “Talk To Me.” It’s a fiery track that will hit you hard with it’s high-energy feel, intense lyrical delivery, and a simply awesome beat. It’s definitely one of this week’s highlights.

WHILK AND MISKY - RAIN DANCE

Duo WHILK AND MISKY are getting us ready for cold and dreary weather with their haunting new single, “Rain Dance.” The slow burning track draws you in with deep vocals, soft snaps, and rain-like instrumentals that get you ready for what comes next —Raw electric guitar, soft percussion, and gospel backing vocals that build into a dramatic climax at the 2:20 mark that you wont expect.
