The New Superstars of Miami Music Week!

Written by Laura D

Almost everyone who's anyone in the dance music industry frolics over to sunny Miami for what can only be described as the biggest, longest, most glorious week long showcase of electronic talent.

Whether it's your first or fifteenth MMW, it's a great time to be involved. Of course there's Ultra, with its massive lineup and immense range, but what about all of the other parties? Which do you choose? Well, we're making it easy for you. I know even I get overwhelmed with the amount of stuff going on and sometimes miss out on the smaller, but truly special parties.

Below you'll find a fairly comprehensive, stupidly easy-to-read list of what I'll be venturing off to over the course of the week, putting a spotlight on an artist that may be lower on the billing but still deserving of some special attention.

Personally, house music is my go to for Miami, as it's easy to listen to and, more importantly, dance my ass off to for an insane, inhuman amount of hours. But there's a little bit of everything in the mix so don't fret.

What: Paris Social Club Presents: Bromance Takeover

Where: Mamushka's (31 NW 36th St)

Who not to miss: Prince Club (

Why: Prince Club, a Montreal-based duo making pure, unadulterated house, are making some notable waves in the house scene with releases on massive labels like Made To Play and Snatch!. They're really fantastic live, with smooth DJing that creates a groove irresistible to dance to.

Song to look out for: Prince Club - Platinum

Other cool stuff:

DJ Mag Recession Sessions IV @ Shelbourne:

HARD & Mad Decent's Moombahton Massive @ Grand Central:

Boys Noize Presents: Where's Your Child @ Arkadia:

Laidback Luke's Super You & Me @ LIV:

Dirty Filthy Beatz @ Mekka:

What: Dirtybird BBQ

Where: Villa 221 (221 NE 17th St)

Who not to miss: Catz N Dogz (

Why: Their bassy, melodic take on house music got them a renowned spot on Claude VonStroke's Dirtybird imprint, which speaks enough for itself. Great tunes to jive out at a BBQ to, shake your feathers to, what have you.

Song to look out for: Catz N Dogs - Jon Bovi

Other cool stuff:

OWSLA @ Raleigh:

Circo Loco @ Surfcomber:

Mixmash @ National:

THURSDAY (Night):

What: SMOG vs Basshead

Where: Mekka (950 NE 2nd Ave)

Who not to miss: Gemini (

Why: Gemini is barely even 21 and already has multiple successful EPs and his own record label. With immensely well made tracks, Gemini has developed a complex and orchestral spin on dubstep, one that only Nero seemed to have mastered before. This is his first MMW, not to mention his first real tour of the US. I'm definitely excited to see what he brings to the table with his sets.

Song to look out for: Ed Sheeran - You Need Me (Gemini Remix)

Other cool stuff:

Made For The Night @ Villa 221:

Hot Creations @ Shelbourne:

Fly Eye Records @ Mansion:

Pyramid Club @ Mamushka's:

FRIDAY (Day):

What: Below The Bassline

Where: Ricochet Lounge (3250 Buena Vista Blvd)

Who not to miss: Worthy (

Why: Worthy, another artist on the Dirtybird imprint, is making energetic, ghetto house that has been picked up and loved by artists across the dance spectrum. In an intimate setting like Ricochet Lounge, especially during the day, Worthy is sure to be diving deep into his crates for a set you'll never see anywhere again.

Song to look out for: Worthy & Eats Everything - Tric Trac

Other cool stuff:

No Sugar Added @ Nikki Beach:

Medhi Forever @ The Standard:

No 19 Cruise @ Musette Yacht:

All Gone Pete Tong Pool Party @ Surfcomber:

FRIDAY (Night):

Where:  The Hangar (2235 NW 2nd Ave)

Who not to miss: Sound Pelligrino Thermal Team (

Why: Teki Latex and Orgasmic have joined forces to provide a forward-thinking take on electronic music, diving from tribal sounds to tech house to baltimore club and beyond. Their sets are as cheeky as ever, and definitely loaded with new and exciting stuff.

Song to look out for: Sound Pelligrino Thermal Team - Bass Face

Other cool stuff:

Trouble & Bass Blackbird Bop @ Blackbird (FREE):

Mixmag Showcase @ Ice Palace:

Four Tet & Jackmaster @ Bardot:

Hospital Records Showcase @ Eve:

What: No Sugar Added

Where: Nikki Beach (1 Ocean Drive)

Who not to miss: Deniz Koyu (

Why: Deniz Koyu's "Tung!" is one of the most catchy big room house tunes ever made. Questionably more catchy than Swedish House Mafia's "One". There's going to be plenty of energy at his set and Nikki Beach is sure to have an entire crowd of people fist pumping and dancing with a daquiri in hand.

Song to look out for: Deniz Koyu - Tung!

Other cool stuff:

Wolfgang Gartner & Friends @ National:

Why: Kastle is one of the most creative forward-thinking artists out there. His take on bass music leans heavily on the sensual, R&B side, yet leaves the listener in an amazing mood. His sets are undeniably good, and enjoyed by absolutely everyone.

Song to look out for: Kastle - I Know

Fool's Gold Showcase @ Grand Central:

Miami Noize @ Mamushka's:

What: Hard 2 Leave

Where: Gold Rush (29 NE 11th St)

Why: Brenmar is taking electronic music and trap music and delivering them in a booty-shaking, keep-tabs-on-your-girl mix. With such an amazing depth of knowledge into the hip hop scene, his DJ sets become something more than just DJing. And he's pretty much the perfect man to play at a strip club at some ungodly hour at the closing night of MMW.

Song to look out for: Brenmar - Temperature Rising

Other cool stuff:

Axwell & Friends Pool Party @ Surfcomber:

Last Resort @ Villa 221:
