Story Time with Homeboy Sandman

3/19/13

We all love NPR, especially their show "Snap Judgement," which is a lot like the now defunct "VH1 Storytellers*," but actually good. So good in fact, that we're gonna stray from the beaten path today and play a segment from their show.

They recently had one of Bitcandy's favs, Homeboy Sandman, on to talk about a time he entered a rap battle because he needed the $5k cash price to pay his past-due rent.

That's right, Homeboy Sandman, a one-time Yale Law student, needed to win an MC Contest so he wouldn't get evicted.

Something tells me this is more of a 'print the legend' type of deal, but it's a damn good legend. Have a listen below.

You can download this piece right here.

Homeboy Sandman's latest record, First of a Living Breed, is out now via Stones Throw Records. Pick it up now. If you need any more convincing, our friends over at NPR listed it as one of the Top 50 Albums of 2012. What more do you need than that?

Thanks for stopping by Bitcandy, where we might have to make a habit of this storytelling thing,

*I assume they're no longer making new episodes. They have to be, right?
