Today's Candy: Right Here, Right Now

6/27/12

In 1990, Jesus Jones scored a #2 smash with “Right Here, Right Now,” which is not to be confused with Fatboy Slim's song of the same name!  And 12 years later...it's in our Todays Candy column where we pay a tribute every 24-48 hours of some hella awesome songs of the last 30 years.

This track was penned by Mike Edwards following the fall of the Iron Curtain, and embodied the growing sense of peace that was circulating into the early 90s.

Bomber pilots in the first Gulf War were said to have adopted this as their anthem, while Hilary Clinton, Joe Clark and Gerard Kennedy are among the political candidates to have incorporated the track into their campaigns.

Oh, and it was also covered by Alvins and the Chimpunks in 2007 #justsaying.

As for Jesus Jones, despite following it up with a scattering of hits like “International Bright Young Thing,” "The Devil You Know”  and “Real Real Real,” the British band failed to make a mark post-“Right Here, Right Now.”

But this one was all I needed.

Lyrics:

A woman on the radio talks about revolution
When it's already passed her by
Bob Dylan didn't have this to sing about
You know it feels good to be alive

I was alive and I waited, waited
I was alive and I waited for this
Right here, right now
There is no other place I want to be
Right here, right now
Watching the world wake up from history

I saw the decade in, when it seemed the world could change
At the blink of an eye
And if anything
Then there's your sign of the times

I was alive and I waited, waited
I was alive and I waited for this
Right here, right now

I was alive and I waited, waited
I was alive and I waited for this
Right here, right now
There is no other place I want to be
Right here, right now
Watching the world wake up from history

Right here, right now
There is no other place I want to be
Right here, right now
Watching the world wake up from history

Right here, right now
There is no other place I want to be
Right here, right now
Watching the world wake up
