TOP INDIE POP - WEEK 36

9/5/19

Like a true diva, Summer is closing with a bang and it seems that the indie-pop music genre decided to tear a page from summer’s playbook because it’s flaming. Yes! This week’s Best Pop Playlist is filled with bangers that will temporarily shift your mind into party mode. We apologize in advance for any damage your dancing may cause, but we take no responsibility for your actions. As always enjoy and support the following tracks from Dillon Francis, Duckworth, Mark Ronson, Dizzy Fae, and more.

DIZZY FAE - BIG WALL

Last year Dizzy Fae landed on our radar with Free Form, and naturally when we hear something good we get hooked. In the time since, the RnB artist has been working on her No GMO mixtape which I can assure you is as pure and juicy as an organic labeled peach from Whole Foods. Fae focuses in on the darker side of pop but knows how to keep the vibes light enough by delivering beats that are dance worthy.

TAKE ME TO THE LIGHT

This isn’t the first time Francis and The Lights collaborates with Bon Iver or Kanye West. Back in 2016, they gave us the gorgeous track “Friends” and made us believe there was no greater trio to exist. Years later, the 3 acts meet up again and pick up where they left off. Produced by Kanye West, BJ Burton, Benny Blanco, Cashmere Cat, Jeff Bhasker, Noah Goldstein and Francis Starlite, “Take Me To The Light” effortlessly brings together the various styles of each individual to create a melody that swifts listeners off of their feet.

DUCKWRTH - CRUSH

DUCKWRTH makes binge worthy songs … once you click play on any one of his tracks you have to listen to more. Take “Crush” for instance, right from the start you’re captivated by the infectious vibe that sounds like an early 2000 beat. But if you need more than my word as an incentive to listen to the above then how about a trip to the movies with DUCKWRTH as your date.

SOAKY SIREN - DOPE BOYS

The name alone made me want to click play. Soaky Siren is a name that will stick with you, after you listen to her single “Dope Boys.” Her storytelling is one that resonates with the majority of people as it pulls nostalgic strings of younger years where being naive was the only thing we were really good at.

BLACKBEAR - HOT GIRL BUMMER

Oh blackbear you clever bear you … I must say “hot girl bummer” is way more creative than the shenanigans your marketing team pulled on us back in May. ROLF. Oh good times.

BENNY BLANCO, JUICE WRLD - GRADUATION

The best short film of the summer goes to benny blanco and Juice WRLD. As you look back in graduation at the beginning of this school year always remember, for many life gets better, for others highschool was the prime of their life. Don’t be the latter …  be Hailey Steinfeld and get you that Academy Award.

MARK RONSON - PIECES OF US FEAT. KING PRINCESS

Mark Ronson shares “Pieces Of Us” from his latest album Late Night Feelings.” Like the title of his album, “Pieces Of Us” sounds like a page taken from our very own mind when we’re up late at  night thinking about the one we love … but the one we love isn’t thinking about us.

DILLON FRANCIS - GO OFF (NOTHIN’ 2 IT)

Dillon Francis is here to remind us that life should be handled a certain way, which is by droppping some banging beats and inventing what is soon to be the next dance craze. Left hand, right hand, now circle those hips to “Go Off.” Make sure to repeat.

BILLIE EILISH - ALL THE GOOD GIRLS GO TO HELL

AAAHHH! WTF BILLIE?! With no warning the indie dark pop songstress drops us in what feels like the middle of a horror film. Her garments are stripped and needles jam into her flesh. By the 10 second mark, her back gives birth to angelic wings … or so we think. Just freaking watch. It’s terrorizing-ly great.

MEGAN THEE STALLION - HOT GIRL SUMMER FT NICKI MINAJ & TY DOLLA $IGN

And now … for THE song of the summer … though the attention should go to Megan’s chops … the real jaw dropper is Nicki Minaj. Sounding like an OG and giving us the side of her we love, Minaj wraps up her career. Yes, she’s retiring her mic and changing her career to becoming a devoted wife. We wish you the best future Mrs. Petty.

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
