TOP NEW INDIE: ZAYDE WOLF - YOU DO YOU

7/4/17

Stepping into summer, We Are: The Guard listens to "You Do You," a pulse-pounding new and unreleased track from Zayde Wolf. I bet you cannot help but dance to this peppy song.

ZAYDE WOLF - YOU DO YOU

Nearly a year prior, Zayde Wolf released an impressive array of music on his mini-album titled Rare Breed, that set the summer on fire. This summer, Dustin Burnett, going by his Zayde Wolf moniker, has just dropped "You Do You," a plucky, upbeat alt-rock song filled with energizing beats akin to rising stars like Imagine Dragons and Awolnation, fitting into the same genre that can only be described as arena pop rock. Within its two-and-a-half-minute duration, "You Do You" exudes plenty of toe-tapping excitement that is theatrical, folky, and pop-baiting at the same time.

If the song sounds tailormade for a commercial by Apple or Samsung, you are in the ballpark, but Microsoft has already adopted it as a featured song in their Xbox Design Lab advertisement. The song has that distinct quality that warrants its inclusion on radio playlists and gets people’s attention soon after its last note has played, making you wonder who made it. Perhaps, this is the track that puts the Midwest artist on the American map. If not, Wolf’s career is headed towards the correct direction, straight up in trajectory.
