Summer is just around the corner, and it’s never too soon to get those playlists ready. The vaccine is spreading across the country, bringing hope for a fun summer with it. We’re ready for beach days, road trips with friends, and hopefully live music! To get you in the spirit, kick off your playlist with these new indie pop songs.

BABY QUEEN - DOVER BEACH

Baby Queen returns with a road-trip-ready, synth pop summer anthem - “Dover Beach.” Grabbing the music industry’s attention with her brutally honest brand of indie pop, she shows a slightly softer side on “Dover Beach.” Also worth noting that she looks absolutely stunning in the music video.

LANI ROSE - HOW I FEEL

It is simply not a secret that we love Lani Rose here at We Are: The Guard. Following the release of single “Overreacting,” “How I Feel,” only further solidifies that he is consistent in delivering introspective, genre-defying music. His music is like reading a diary (an extremely poetic one though!) and we applaud his bravery in being vulnerable.

SOPHIA GRIPARI - SAD AF

Sometimes, things just suck and we need a minute to be alone. LA based indie pop upstart Sophia Gripari explores this concept on her newest single, “sad af.”  Clear vocals, synths, and electric guitar support her honest, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. The music video echoes this concept, poking fun at different ways of coping with a break up.

GABRIEL GARZÓN-MONTANO - AGÜITA (REMIX) FEAT. SAMPA THE GREAT & AMBER MARK

HOLLY HUMBERSTONE - HAUNTED HOUSE

Holly Humberstone’s songwriting well of devastating material does not seem to run dry. A few months ago, she revealed that there might be friendly ghosts in her house, stating:

“My best friend Scarlett’s mum is psychic and I swear I believe her. She’s been to my house a few times and always says she thinks it’s haunted. It’s a very old house and I think lots of people have probably died here. I’ve lived in the house for 18 years, so if there are ghosts here then they’re nice ones!”

Her newest song “Haunted House” talks about moving on from a beloved place.

CHICOCURLYHEAD - MODELO

Chicocurlyhead (aka John Farrish) combines his Panamanian roots with trap and R&B. The result is powerful, catchy, danceable songs. His newest song “Modelo” deserves a song on your summer playlist. The vibes are impeccable.

KING MALA - SHE CALLS ME DADDY

Big shout out to the TikTok algorithm for introducing us to this absolute jam. KiNG MALA projects power on “she calls me daddy.” Mysterious, witty, and on the brink of world domination, KiNG MALA is one to look out for.
