NEW ARTIST FINDS: THE ERISED
We all know the mainstream music industry has no shortage of vanity projects disguised as artists who spend more time looking at the mirror to see what they desire instead of playing what we desire. What we need is to flip the idea of this tainted desire. Lucky for us, we stumbled upon a classy six-piece desire-flipping Ukrainian band named The Erised to make our wishes come true. (Thanks to BitCandy curator Duffster for this awesome find!)
Debuting with their minimal yet magnificent four track EP entitled Desire, they introduced a sweet sonic blend of heavy basslines and soft melodies that go down smoother than your grandpa’s favorite scotch (assuming he isn’t a raging alcoholic).
Fronting The Erised is charismatic lead singer Sonya Sukurova who really brings all the elements together with her vocal depth and raw emotional delivery.
The opening track “Pray” kicks off their march in progressive minimal pop jazz territory in style. The basslines are not the strange 2EDGY4U seizure-in-slo-mo ones kind used by hipsters, but are in fact timed to perfection.

This really helps bring a contemporary kick to their soundscape just when you think they’re settling into their comfort zone.
The second track, "A Way To Forget You," brings more maturity to their sound by stepping up the soft piano, moody bass lines, sporadic guitar riffs, and chilling vocals building up to a commendable finale.

One of the most redeeming qualities of The Erised is their intoxicatingly atmospheric live performance chops. While the new traditions of using heavy backing tracks, auto-tune, and three-quarters naked models twerking to distract audiences rage on, The Erised begs to differ.
Don’t believe me? Just have a look at the YouTube video for their goosebumps-inducing heartbreak track called "It's Over" performed live in front of cameras. By the time it actually gets over, you are going to immediately hop on to all related videos with The Erised.
