NEW ARTIST FINDS: FLANCH
FLANCH is the name of a brand new alt-electronic group from Indianapolis, and we were totally caught off guard by the refreshing sound of their debut self-titled album. The group describes their sound as “grimy electronic+ crunchy rap+ nasty pop,” which totally makes sense as they manage to feature everything from ambient atmospherics, soothing vocals, glitchy electronics, to hip hop and pop in their music. Since we here at BitCandy filter through a sea of new artists every day (and hey—we aren’t complaining. That is our job after all), it’s always refreshing to stumble upon a group that you can’t really compare to any other artists currently out there. Read on to discover the captivating sound of FLANCH.
FLANCH - PRETTY GIRL
“Pretty Girl” is the perfect representation of their sound, which is why we are sharing it with you first. It features spotlight-stealing vocals, menacing electronics and booming bass that all works together to form a seriously awesome track that’s refreshing and different. Although there is a lot going on here, I can’t help but pick up a delicate and minimalistic feel—Dark and gloomy atmospherics carry the track throughout its duration, while electronics that switch between shimmering and glitchy keep your undivided attention throughout.
FLANCH - PURGATORY4U
“Purgatory4u” had me hooked from the very beginning with its distorted bass-synths and gloomy glitched-out electronics that make you feel like you're entering some sort of haunted space station. Once the beautifully eerie child-like vocals come in after the 0:40 mark, you’ll be on the edge of your seat as you can tell more changes are coming. Just before the 1:30 mark, soulful male vocals come in to take the track in an entirely different direction and lead you into its hip hop feel. This is easily one of my favorite tracks of theirs, and I think it will be one of yours too.
