NEW ARTIST FINDS: _k.i.d._

6/10/15

_k.i.d_ or, presumably kids in despair, are Kara and Bobby. They make music in their alcoholic mother’s basement and it’s catchy, grungy, garage pop tinged with keyboards. They tackle, as their name suggests, the ridiculous anguish of youth.

"Stoned On The School Bus" is a soft, quiet song that is frankly fucking depressing. It solemnly and somewhat wryly captures how god awful growing up can really be. The desire to be somewhere else doing something else is grossly overwhelming, and yet there you are, as the title says, stoned on the school bus. The track itself is wistful and twinkling and Kara’s vocals are pained, powerful perfection.

"New Emotion" is somewhat of a departure, with a more electro pop feel but still retaining the emotive soul of the other tracks. Indeed, it conveys perfectly the moment of exhilarating moment when you meet someone that doesn’t make you feel like shit, and maybe, just maybe, makes you feel good inside.

The entire EP feels genuine, with powerful vocals and relatable lyrics and intelligently stripped down sound.  This raw, insightful duo has my attention and should have yours too.
