NEW ARTIST FINDS: VINYL THIEF

3/7/15

Vinyl Thief hails from Nashville, TN, a city that’s musically inclined and continues to spit out top-notch artists. This quartet grew up making music for their church and as pointed out in the past, “[they] make music that sounds nothing like their back story." Vinyl Thief has a sound that reminds you why we all liked The Killers back in the day. The soothing synth and catchy choruses offer a sound appropriate for your Sunday’s best.

VINYL THIEF - MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT

Damn, listen to that hi-hat! That’s sexy. “Middle Of The Night” has the cheesiest lyrics but like any great band, they can get the tune stuck in your head. There’s no doubt that Grayson Proctor’s long held notes are nothing short of awesome. This song has radio friendly all over it and it’s a surprise that you don’t hear it as often. It’s a song that one can make sweet, passionate love to. Forget that goofy 50 Shades of Grey sex; having sex to this song shows you’re a classy human being!

VINYL THIEF - STOP MOTION

How’s that for an intro? Talk about tickling the ivories. Followed by your quintessential bass drum beat, it’s no doubt that if the timing was different, you would have heard this song in “500 Days of Summer.” It screams hipster, and we’re ok with that. This song has a little bit of a Temper Trap having sex with U2 sound, just without the pretentiousness. Solid paradiddles keep this beat going only to be followed by excellent strumming. It’s no doubt that you’d be nodding your head back and forth to this little number.

VINYL THIEF - SMOOTH

“Smooth” says it all in the title. It’s a smooth track guaranteed to relax you, and it’s a great come down from the exhilaration that are the previous two songs. There’s no shortage of hi-hat play and a funky bass line. This track shows their unique style more than the previous two. The influences were clear, especially in “Stop Motion” but they stand their own ground with this soothing ballot.
