Welcome to LA Music Blog BitCandy's Best of PopKiller, featuring pop cuts that are doper than dope itself (only without the paranoia, munchies, sweats and other unwelcome side effects...win!). The other good news is that Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne, Ke$ha and One Direction are never invited to join us at the PopKiller table of alternative pop, remixes, mashups treats. Let's get started with out picks for the week:
B.o.B. “Never Let You Go ft. Ryan Tedder” / “Out Of My Mind ft. Nicki Minaj”
Here are two cuts from B.o.B.'s collab-crazy new album, Strange Clouds -- the feel-good “Never Let You Go,” featuring OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, and “Out Of My Mind,” which stars a madhatter Nicki Minaj (though she can stay away from our tea party!)
Santigold “Look At These Hoes” / “Go! ft. Karen O”
Santigold's new album is not exactly cutting our edges, but we are still digging the following songs from Master of My Make Believe – “Look At These Hoes” and “Go!”, which features a visceral (though blink and you'll miss it) verse from Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O.
DJ Fusion “I Wonder If Heaven Got A Stairway (2Pac vs Led Zeppelin)”
Shout out to DJ Fusion for serving up this sick mash of 2Pac's “I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto” and Led Zeppelin's “Stairway to Heaven.” Hey, perhaps we can get Tupac Shakur and John Bonham's holograms to join forces on this? Note that idea down, Coachella (next to MCA).
Busta Rhymes “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See (DJ Cheapshot Remix)”
We're *pretty* sure Busta Rhymes is still alive and we're *pretty* sure he is working on a new album, but DJ Cheapshot sees us over until then with this remix of Busta's 1997 number “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See.”
Norah Jones “Happy Pills”
Get a boyfriend, get him to dump you, then listen to Norah Jones' fantastic new break-up album, Little Broken Hearts (its produced by Danger Mouse, yo!) Here's the LP's lead single, "Happy Pills.”
Fun “We Are The Young (Party Ben and MyKill Remix)”
What could be more fun than this fun remix of Fun from Party Ben and MyKill?
Christina Perri “Arms (Betatraxx Remix)”
Holy shit! The impossible has happened! We can actually stand to listen to Christina Perri now, and all thanks to Betatraxx
Drake "Crew Love ft. The Weeknd (Star Slinger Remix)"
Take your nose off my keyboard (YES! I've always wanted to incorporate that lyric into a sentence!) and listen to this ethereal remix of Drake's “Crew Love” from Star Slinger instead.
Logic “Inception”
"Inception" is a killer cut from Young Sinatra aka Logic's new mixtape, Undeniable, which you can download (for frees!) here.
Darq E Freaker "Blueberry ft. Danny Brown (Star Slinger Remix)"
Our second slice from the British brainiac that is Star Slinger! A remix of Darq E Freaker and Danny Brown's aggressive grime-rap cut, “Blueberry (Cocaine and Pills).”
Blaqstarr "She Is Love"
We're closing down this week's Best of PopKiller with Blaqstarr's breezy new single, “She Is Love,” as danced to by supermodels everywhere. Taken from Blaqstarr's upcoming debut, Here We Are!
